Hi,

Is it possible to get a USB capture device, preferebly Hauppauge, that will allow me to plug in my Satellite dish? Specifically I want to record NZ Freeview from my satellite dish, using a USB capture device, not a PCI or PCIe card.

I've looked at the 850 and 955Q devices on this page: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/p...ernal.html .. but I can't quite tell if they receive DVB-S. Seeing as they don't say it, I'm guessing they don't.

The reason I want to use USB is that I'd like to put NPVR on a VM and use software to pass the USB port through to the VM (usb-over-network.com or eltima.com or flexihub.com).

Cheers
Julian.

Any reason you've not gone DVB-T given you're in wellington? Easier to find a usb dvb-t tuner....or splash out and get a homerun. My nextpvr server is virtualised, and it uses a hd home run as the tuner...no fiddly usb passthrough.

Yeah I live in Whitby and can't get any dvb-t signals. Sad

Kaukau mainly but Whitby is notorious for having bad -t reception. Just because of the terrain. I live in a spot where the signal is completely blocked by mercury way.

I did have some success getting uhf signal with the vhf aerial on the roof plugged straight into the TV and me aiming it with the wife calling out the signal strength reported by the TV. That amatuer effort resulted in a watchable picture so I should try a bit harder really. I got put off by the aerial installer who waved his meter around for a few minutes at ground height only and said "no signal here mate".

But my satellite cable is all routed to the computer in the study and the system is ready to go, but for the lack of the desired tuner. The TV aerial would be a hassle in comparison.

Looks good. The buy now link takes you to the webstore.hauppauge.de and the device has pctv branding on it. So do hauppauge not just have a device with their own branding on it that I can buy?! I presume this one will be supported by npvr because it's hauppauge?

I presume ATSC and DVB-S are not the same thing?
