NextPVR 2.4.8 Installer Directory Bug

I recently installed NextPVR 2.4.8 on a new Windows 8.1 system.
FYI, the installer did not create the initial NPVR service as it used
the directory C:\Users\Public\NPVR rather than C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR.

Guessing that its 3.4.8 ... Simply stated, NextPVR puts binaries (programs and stuff) in Program Files and config files (.ini and .xml) and the database in Users\Public ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post480931

unlikely. either you changed something during the install, or you had previously installed it and didn't uninstall it correctly, then tried to re-install to a different path.

uninstall
run regedit, delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NPVR
run admin command prompt (from start button right-click menu), enter

sc delete "NPVR Recording Service"

install again

I just tested clean-installing both the current 3.4.8 installer and the new installer for 3.5.x (likely to be released tomorrow), and both do a clean-install to the correct locations with no problems.

Yes, it's possible that I had an older release of NextPVR installed a couple of years ago and the install directories have changed since then. FYI, attached is my install log.
I fixed my 3.4.8 problem using: "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\NRecord.exe" INSTALL
which completed successfully.

no change since day 1, but nothing stops you from telling it to install somewhere else

odd, that's exactly what the installer does, and is in fact shown in the log

we do see odd reports of this happening from time to time, but it's never anything that can be reproduced; the steps I gave in my first post to clean it out completely then re-install always fixes it. did you download 3.4.8 recently or awhile back? I do recall sub fixing some sort of bug in the installer, though I don't recall exactly what it was.

"Execute: C:\Users\Public\NPVR\NRecord.exe INSTALL" which fails as NRecord.exe
is not in that directory. I always install in the default directories.

ok, I believe the april 30 version of NPVRSetup_3_4_8.exe did have a bug in the installer, I vaguely recall it did have something to do with clean installs; I was rather busy with other things at the time, and of course didn't do any clean installs myself, so I didn't initially remember this.

The current version is fixed (see the "we don't need no stinking patches" sticky post). moot point now though, 3.5.x is forthcoming tomorrow most likely, just tidying final tweaks, and sub will probably want the test group to run a night's worth of recordings with the final release candidate.

oh, yes, you're right, I looked right at that line and completely missed that it was the wrong path, even though you were telling me it was the wrong path in the first post. shows how easy it is to see what you expect, even if something else is there instead.
sorry, usually I provide better help than this... in any case, that bug is long gone, look for 3.5.x tomorrow unless a fatal flaw is found.
