Do you think purchasing the windows 10 DVD player would would be worth $15, if only for the MPEG2 codecs? Do you think the Windows codecs would be good enough to warrant $15 in comparison to something like LAV?

Thanks.

And ... the MS codecs may be locked down and will not work with third party apps.

I've found my old Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder to work way better than the LAV. I even used those in preference to the MS MPEG2 decoder. I simply copied it off and re-install whenever I rebuild a machine. (CLVSD.ax)

Ok thanks, I have a Cyberlink decoder as well, and like you I noticed that they are very modular and that you can copy them to other locations.

Based on your feedback I'll probably continue using Cyberlink then. The version I'm using is Cyberlink Video Decoder (PDVD10). I've upgraded my Cyberlink software beyond version 10 but I couldn't get any of the Cyberlink MPEG2 decoders working past version 10, it seems like they may have locked their decoders starting on version 11+.

By the way, do you happen to know what the difference is between "Cyberlink Video Decoder (PDVD10)" and "Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD10)"? I have both available to me.

Nope not sure of what the difference is... Mine is dated 5/5/2008, works great, I've used others, but this one seems to be the best, for me at least.

I'd be willing to take one for the team and buy this for my tablet, but I would like a mpeg2video recording shnipped that doesn't play well with LAV and NextPVR that works ok on Win 7 with the Microsoft decoder. Mine OTA and analog all play fine.

The last working version of the Cyberlink decoder (outside of PDVD) is v1.0.1130.5105 which is flagged as PDVD13 (I think) this is in the unlocked SAF6 - after this version, they work for H264 but not MPEG2. The SP Decoder is MPEG2 only, but I think the Video Decoder (PDVD13) has a sharper picture than the SP and handles signal breakup better than the Microsoft decoder.

The Windows 10 DVD App is locked to only play optical discs in the DVD drive (no iso's) - I think it uses media foundation codecs.

I have gone back to Windows 8.1 from 10 due to the sound problems - no DTS Connect or Dolby Live on any make of sound chip, card or USB device (Microsoft Problem - not drivers)
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I forgot where I got this but it does appear 10 was released before they acquired all the proper drivers. The red arrows were marks for a friend of mine so disregard them.

My suggestion, dump 10. For the life of me I see no reason to switch to 10, maybe if you had a pirated copy or something. But, it has stripped so much, it makes no sense to change.
