New Media Box: Win 7 vs Win 10, NextPVR vs MMC

I have just replaced the innards of my media server that was running mythtv under ubuntu, with a new low powered AMD system.

Although the old setup ran reasonably well, for various reasons including ease of maintenance I would now like to run windows, especially since as part of my family's Windows 8/10 transition I have recently liberated a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate.

That is now just running on my newly installed hardware, but I would ideally like to move to Windows 10 to future proof it and generally minimise future tinkering.

My question is whether people generally believe NextPVR is sufficiently stable under Win 10, to enable me to create substantially a set up and forget installation with Kodi, or whether I should stick to Windows 7 and MMC for now.

Windows 10 had no adverse impact on NextPVR and NextPVR works just as well under W10 as it did in all previous versions of Windows.

While NPVR itself runs fine on Win10, the issues seem to be with decoders and tuner drivers and folks finding NPVR is different than WMC. Decoders seem to less of an issue in the UK than USA. Tuner drivers though... Also, I think there were a couple of network "card" drivers, and perhaps some issues/questions with sleep and wake. I expect these will be sorted eventually. If it was me, I'd run 7 for awhile until 10 sorts itself. But, if the window of free upgrade closes, then...

The choice between WMC and NPVR is pretty much cosmetic to me, if you don't have US encrypted cable TV to deal with.

Correct.

In fact, NextPVR is developed on Win10 these days.
