Interesting. I always thought it just "handed it off to windows", regardless of mode. The OP says his audio track is aac. Mine is too, and I have it set to ArcSoft and it works fine. When I saw that HE-AAC in his log, I thought something was fishy, but I can't even make that happen if I try. Maybe it's a 3.5.7 thing, or a Win10 thing. Since I'm doing 3.4.8 and XP our setups are not too equivalent.

I tried a few things. In the GUI, I disabled HE-AAC. I then get an error shown for a few seconds saying "Missing Audio? AAC encoders are not selected (even though AAC is selected). I toggled through both available decoders (LAV and Arcsoft) with no luck.

Does a method exist to make NPV use AAC in the live mode?

I appreciate everyone trying to help on this. It would be nice to get to the bottom of the issue.

Could you make sure you have LAV 32 bit installed and configured in NextPVR for AAC and upload the logs showing playback using the Default Audio device

Attached are the new logs. I have default renderer for the Audio. I uninstalled LAV, reinstalled using only the suggested LAV version from the NPV forum link (0.65) and made sure only 32 bit was checked for install.
Screenie is included of the selected decoders.

I'm guessing it has trouble with the default mpeg2 switching to AAC. Could you set LAV as your mpeg2 audio decoder too?

There are better log analyzers out there than I, but what I see is that when you tell it to play an ongoing recording, it loads up the AAC decoder, and then when you try live TV it loads up the HE-AAC decoder. And I believe you said it gives sound if you play an ongoing recording but not when you do live TV, so that would track. Mysteries abound. It will take greater minds indeed. Could you disable the HE-AAC decoder and do it again and post logs again so we can see if it still tries to load HE-AAC? If it tries while it is disabled, I think it says it can't load the specified decoder but it still shows it trying.

But do what Martin says first. He's one of those who is better at it than I.

I set all audio to LAV. No luck.

I'm pretty sure it's to do with HE-AAC vs AAC. I'm just travelling today though, with no access to my code. When I'm back in NZ tomorrow, I could take a look for you.

Thank you. Let me know if I can assist with running anything for debug..

You did do the test of disabling HE-AAC leaving just LAV for AAC right?
