Amazing...

No direct Ethernet, but still incredible deal for $5... There's also a competitor for $9 (CHIP)

Damn, wish you'd posted this a few days ago, I'd have bought a copy of The MagPi - I'd be surprised if I could find one just on a shelf in a newsagent - I suspect they've all been snapped up.

Back on topic though - very tempting. I've been working on an idea for some home automation - one option was a RPi in each room with light and temperature sensors rigged to the GPIO but cost is prohibitive - perhaps not so much now.

Cheers,
Brian

@ Brian I use arduino and 1 wire network for temperature mixture of old x10 insteon and wemo for switches dimmers etc

No network ethernet makes it a no go for me ,tried WiFi on rpi adds a big delay in everything you do over network

Thanks but price is still a definite plus point especially if I can find a copy of the magazine (there are 6 newsagents on the way to work - I can hope...). I generally find the Edimax USB WIFI dongle I've got for my current RPi is good and I would need 'realtime' network connections for what I've got in mind - just periodic connections.

Cheers,
Brian

Well I got my issue of "The MagPi" with free Pi Zero eventually. It seems finding a copy anywhere within a day or two of publishing was like looking for rocking horse poop - assisted by the case that people seemed to be bulk-buying then sticking copies on eBay at hugely inflated prices (b'stards)

In the end I took out a quarterly subscription to the magazine but had to wait for a reprint and clearance of backlog so my copy arrived yesterday in the post. Pretty cool though as I also got a free mini HDMI to standard HDMI adapter and micro USB to standard USB adapter too.

As I haven't a wireless or USB keyboard / mouse I had to do a bit of hacking of system files on the SD card in order to get my Edimax wifi dongle to auto connect but after that I was able to connect with ssh - all fairly painless.

Now to have some fun.

Oh BTW it's ridiculously small.

Brian

And, for those of you watching in black and white ... a fifty pence coin is a little under 3 cm across.

And, for those of you watching in Red White and Blue ... a fifty pence coin is roughly and inch across Big Grin. (current coin, earlier as a bit larger)

Thanks guys, I had meant to mention that but forgot. I have we covered it all? What about wavelengths of light from a HeNe laser. Big Grin

For those of you who are too young to remember a world before colour television ... When colour TV began in the UK, the BBC began to broadcast snooker and the commentary for one game included, in a whispered voice, "For those of you watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green."

And finally, for those of you in countries that don't play test match cricket ... snooker is a bit like pool.
