Hi,

I would appreciate some help/advise relating to a recent issue being caused (I think) by my cable provider (Verizon FiOS).

Thursday morning I noticed that one specific channel (which had no issues for over 2 years) was not producing audio. No other channels appear to be affected. .After trying different TV apps, I discovered that neither npvr, HDHomerun View nor VLC generated audio on this specific channel, but WMC did. I called Verizon, they claimed it was the cable card and sent me a new one, which I installed the next day, but no change in audio output on that channel. I called Verizon again, and they didn't have an answer for me, they said that they would elevate the issue, which in turn causes some sort of tech to issue a reset on the cablecard - which did nothing for me.

Playing around in NPVR settings, I brought up the audio stream control, selected "Eng" and sure enough, audio started streaming on that channel. If I tune to a different channel, then back to the problem channel, I need to again set the audio stream to "Eng" to receive the audio.

Since Verizon is virtually ignoring my claims of a problem, I am wondering if there is a way that npvr can automatically enable or force, by default, the English audio stream when tuning to any given channel (or even all channels)? Since there are no such audio issues with WMC, I am assuming that it has this capability built in to it. I am hoping that NPVR has the same ability.

If you can supply a small sample recording from this channel, I should be able to get it going for you.

Does this problem also happen when playing back recordings from that channel, or just live tv?

Playing that sample recording gives me audio. We'll probably need to see if you still have the problem when you upgrade to 3.6.6. If you do, we'll do some more analysis.

it happens with NPVR liveTV and playback with VLC.

When playing back with NPVR & MPC, audio does work.

The problem is happening because they've marked the default language as a spanish stream that doesn't exist. I'm sure they'll notice this channel configuation error and correct it at some stage.

You probably get NextPVR Live TV working by setting <LanguagePreference1>eng</LanguagePreference1> in config.xml. In VLC you'll probably have to manually select the audio track until they correct it.

OK, thanks. Yep, that did it! Thanks so much !!!

I just installed 366 on server and 1 client - I did notice that the install, on the Client, re-enabled and started npvr recording service, which I don't believe is required. Was this intentional?

This installer always assume it's a full install, with local recording service etc. It doesn't know anything about client-only setups.

Are you sure it "re-enabled" it? It didn't do that on my client. I had the recording service disabled, and it remained disabled after installing 3.6.6.

It is odd in that - on two clients it was re-enabled and on one other it was not. I need to upgrade three more clients. I am curious how those will turn out.
