I've got a Win7 HTPC.

Live TV is not choppy at all using Win7's Media Center.

In XBMC, if I select my HDMI audio, playback is very choppy. If I select Analog Audio, playback is smooth, but the volume is too high and can not be controlled with the remote.

From the NextPVR interface, the Settings under Decoder are as follows:
Code:
Renderers:
Video Renderer = { EVR, VMR9, VMR9 Custom, VMR9 FSE, VMR7, Overlay }
Audio Renderer = { Default (Recommended), Speakers (Microsoft Digital Sound), Default DirectSound Device, Default WaveOut Device, DirectSound: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device), DirectSound: Speakers (Microsoft Digital Sound), Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) }
Music Renderer = { Default (Recommended), Speakers (Microsoft Digital Sound), Default DirectSound Device, Default WaveOut Device, DirectSound: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device), DirectSound: Speakers (Microsoft Digital Sound), Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) }

Decoders:
MPEG2 Video = { Disabled, Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder }
H.264 Video = { Disabled, Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, }
MPEG1 Audio = { Disabled, MPEG Audio Decoder, Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, }
AC3 Audio = { Disabled, }
E-AC3 Audio = { Disabled, }
ACC Audio = { Disabled, }
HE-ACC Audio = { Disabled, }

The default selections (and what I am running now) are shown in the attached screenshot.

Do I have enough decoders to select from to eliminate the choppy playback? If so, what should I try changing to?

I'd rather NOT install some new codec if I don't have to. It seems like installing a codec may fix one problem, but it introduces 2 or 3 more in other file types.

Apologies if I have misunderstood ... Playback in XBMC does not use the decoder settings from NextPVR. From memory, there are video and audio settings in XBMC itself.

Yep, Graham is correct. These decoder settings will only make a difference to what you see when you're watching in NextPVR itself. You need to be fiddling with XBMC settings.

Oh. OK, good to know. I'll have to go ask over in the XBMC forum then.

Thanks.

The problem will likely be one of two things. Depending on your card video de-interlacing might cause stutter. My i7 with HD4000 barely plays with DXGA Best, I have to Bob. Also the audio type will impact greatly. For me DirectSound works, but play is awful with WSAPI.

Kodi crashes a lot.

I'd really like to learn how to get NextPVR's audio to working.

Most channels I get a black screen on. No channels give me audio.

How do I go about telling what kind of decoders should be used for each of the options? There are 3 "Renderers", 3 Video Decoders, and 5 options under Audio Decoders.

The device is an Intel NUC running Windows 7. It has an HDMI (audio & video) going out to an LG LCD TV.

A: it sounds like you are now trying to get native NPVR working
B: Better to open a new thread in the NPVR support forum rather than add to a three year old one in the KODI forum.

So maybe try watching a channel in NPVR then open a new thread and post your logs...

+1 to Alex

Before you post the logs in a new thread, you can try this setup

Video Renderer - EVR
Audio Renderer - Default
Music Renderer - Default

Video Decoder - Microsoft DTV/DVD Decoder
Mpeg 1 Decoder - AC3 Filter
AC3 Decoder - AC3 Filter
Remainder of Audio Decoders - Disabled

You'll need an h.264 video decoder if you're using an HDPVR or Colossus. The MS decoder should work, so select it for h.264.

You'll need to download and install AC3 Filter from ac3filter.net.

If it doesn't work, make sure you include the logs when you post. Also the tuner or capture device you are using.
HTPC: Optiplex 7010, HDHR Prime/Avermedia Duet A188, NPVR 4.2.5, Win10 Pro

Thanks Mike.

I don't have AC3, but I do have LAV Audio Decoder.

By disabling the remainder of the audio decoders, does that mean I'd have no audio if an AVI file were created with, say, AAC audio?
