Home Theater PC - need some help!

Hi ALL,

I have a small Dell Inspiron Zino PC that I use with my main TV to record OTA shows when my cable DVR is busy recording its max number of shows. The Dell had Win 7 with Win Media Center, an IR remote sensor and a Hauppauge USB TV tuner. All of the above worked great. The IR remote was able to start WMC, navigate within WMC and even exit with WMC telling Win 7 to shut down. But now I upgraded to Win 10 and WMC is no more!!

So I'm playing around with NPVR and I first tried it on my desktop PC and with some help from here got it working. Now its on the Dell and also working but I have a few questions.

The remote that came with the Dell and worked with WMC does work with NPVR so that is very good. However I saw an option in NPVR's settings to start NPVR with the green MCE remote button and I checked that option but when NPVR is not running and I click the green remote button nothing happens. But once I use the mouse to get NPVR running all of the buttons on the remote seem to work fine. Is there something else I have to do to get NPVR to start with the green remote button?

If I can get the above to work is there any way I can get NPVR to exit and shut down Win 10?

I can't answer the question about starting NPVR with the green MCE button, but you can install the System plugin (http://nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Plugin.System) to shut down (plus other options) the PC.

Thanks for the info. I got that running, although the install instructions simply said to copy the files into the data directory instead of putting certain files into the Plugin and Skins subdirectory. But after a little trial and error I got it working. And it does do want I wanted, so thanks!

The only problem I have left is I'm finding that when I go to Live TV the channel comes up. But then if I go back to the Main Menu, either with the remote or right clicking with the mouse and then selecting Main Menu, the window goes black and nothing comes up and when I try to close it Windows marks it as non-responsive and I have to force it closed. But when I go to Live TV, go up or down a channel, then go back to the original channel and then go to Main Menu it works fine!!

This is happening on the Dell HTPC but when I try it on my desktop PC it always gets to the Main Menu with no problem. Do you, or anyone else have any idea what this is and how I can go about troubleshooting it. Both PC use Hauppauge TV tuners but the Dell's is a USB plugin, while the desktop is an add-in card on the motherboard.
