'eng' is the 3 letter language tag the broadcaster has given for this stream. ie, English. It can take a few seconds, it depends on few things like decoders you're using, and how big the offset between audio and video packets is in the stream. THANKS

Are you saying the NPVR Recording Service is not starting automatically when you machine boots? YES

Any error message in the Windows Event Viewer? NO - EXCEPT THE USUAL ERRORS THAT APPEAR IN WINDOWS EVENT VIEWER
Is a c:\users\public\npvr\logs\nrecord.log created at the time you booted, and does it have any errors listed? ARE YOU ASKING ME TO POST A LOG HERE STRAIGHT AFTER I REBOOT? iF YOU WANT THAT I WILL DO IT - LET ME KNOW. IN THE MEANTIME BELOW IS MY CURRENT LOGS AFTER RE-SCANNING FOR CHANNELS [WITH ALEX'S NEW INI INSTALLED]
Are you issuing a patch for this problem sub or is it unique to just a few systems & I should live with it?

LOGS BELOW:

Yes, reboot, then check if there is a nrecord.log with a date/time after your attempted reboot, then post the file. ie, I'm trying to determine if Windows attempted to start the recording service at bootup, but failed for some reason. If that is the case, hopefully the nrecord.log will contain clues why.

Is those logs you posted from immediately after the freeze I was asking about? If not, then repost them immediately after you have one of these freezes.

Regarding stability I see EPG updates are not disabled during LiveTV, That is highly recommended.

No those logs aren't after a freeze. But I will post if I get another freeze.

I've just done the reboot 20 minutes ago:
[1] NPVR Recording Service [NRecord.exe] is "started, automatic"
[2] Reboot
[3] Service is now "stopped, automatic"

LOGS ARE BELOW [I note that in the two nrecord logs there is a line saying "No C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Scripts\PostStartup.bat" - don't know if that means something important]

As I asked, was the date/time on the nrecord.log after the time you rebooted? (or was no new nrecord.log created, and the one you've supplied from before your reboot)

From your scan log for frequency 618166...
Code:
<discovered key='㈸㔰㠺㐴2' name='More 4'/>
  <discovered key='㈸㔰㠺㔴2' name='Channel 4+1'/>
  <discovered key='㈸㔰㠺㔴6' name='S4C'/>
  <discovered key='㈸㔰㠺〵0' name='Channel 5'/>
  <discovered key='㈸㔰㠺〶0' name='Freeview Information'/>
</sdt>

2016-08-26 22:13:06.657    [ERROR][1]    ' ', hexadecimal value 0x0B, is an invalid character. Line 168, position 28.:
1. the hieroglyphics don't look good
2. you shouldn't be picking up S4C from Sutton Coldfield

Are you to the North-West of the Sutton Coldfield transmitter by any chance? Could be that you are getting some sort of interference from Moel-Y-Parc at Rhyl which broadcasts S4C on 618166.
