Hey Everyone,

I think I have everything setup right. I have my internet coax split using a simple coax splitter. One part goes to my modem for internet and the other goes to my tv tuner which is a KWorld UB435-Q USB ATSC TV Stick. I installed NPVR and went into settings->devices and then went into device setup for the type: ATSC device BDA 2875 TVTuner (my UB435-Q) and scanned for channels but it didn't find any.

I only subscribe for internet from time warner cable, do they not also transmit free channels on the coax as well?

Regards,

ilithis

My brother (TWC, Irving, TX) had this setup and he did not get any TV, just internet. I couldn't believe it.

Time Warner has gotten rid of nearly all non-encrypted channels. For reasons unknown, only Disney remains available here. 3 or 4 years ago it was fairly common to find at least all the basic broadcast channels in the clear, but that's becoming increasingly rare.

That said, the real reason you're not finding anything is that NextPVR doesn't recognize the digital-cable tuning ability of your KWorld tuner. You should have a device labeled "QAM" in addition to the "ATSC" version... "ATSC" is for over-the-air channels from an antenna, QAM is for digital cable.

THAT said, even if NextPVR does or could be made to recognize the QAM version of your tuner, the fact is that KWorld tuners are well-known not to work in QAM mode with NextPVR. They use a proprietary method to switch from the default ATSC mode to QAM mode, and it only works with the software that comes with the device. KWorld has provided no technical help to the developer of NextPVR, so their devices will likely remain unsupported for QAM.

If you could successfully scan for QAM channels, you'd get a huge number of them in the scan results but they'd probably all be encrypted.

Sorry, yes, no good news there, but our new friend hopefully now knows more about what should and shouldn't work, and why.

Yeah, the answer in Irving was "get an antenna". Then, because even though he lives in the middle of a city he apparently lives in a Faraday cage, "get an amplified antenna". That worked.

The following page says there are already working drivers for Linux for the KWorld UB435-Q V1, V2 and V3 tuners:
https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/K...C_TV_stick

These tuners also works in Linux with Kaffeine media player and MythTV.

So the answer to the problem can probably be found in the Linux kernel source code or Kaffeine or MythTV source code.
Does anyone know where to look to search the source code and see what they did?

There is only the one and sadly he doesn't have time to write drivers.
