Why does Scan find a channel but there is no video or audio on the channel?

No big deal but I have a couple of channels that are found with a Scan but there is no video or audio when I try to view the channel. Why is scan finding the channel in the first place?

What type of scan? If it's a digital cable channel, it could be encrypted.

If you do a short recording of that channel, do you end up with a file on disk? Can you play that file in NextPVR or any other player?

Supply a short sample recording from that channel and I'll check it out.

Got a couple of minutes to check this out. A zero byte file is what is recorded.

This is a fairly distant station. Youngstown, OH. About 56 miles / 90 km from here.

Probably a very weak signal then. ie, signal might have been a little better at the time you scanned, but has been too weak any time you've tried using that channel. Even when it was good enough to pickup a weak signal, and get the channel name etc, it might not have been good enough to get good recordings out of it. Options are probably either delete the channel, or get a better antenna.
