After the upgrade ( I may have done other stuff as well while "cleaning" system) I've found I lost video in. In other words, when selecting watch live TV or playing back a new recording, I only a smooth black screen - Sound is however, OK.

I can play with no problem anything I recorded before the upgrade.

I have a haupp 150 running in an XP sp2 system.

Thanks,
Scott

What video decoder are you using?

IntelVideo non CCS
(I also tried system default to no avail)

Note that I can play video that was recorded before the upgrade - wouldn't that mean my software decoder is ok?

It seems that the hardware encoding is where it's failing. The capture card setting doesn't appear to be changed - it is referencing the Haup 150. Tuning seems ok and I am getting all the audio that I'd expect.

If you attempt to do a recording does a file get created?

Yes - in fact I get the whole show which is selectable in the "recordings" menu. I can play it, but I see only flat black (not static) and I do get the sound track for the whole show...

maybe I should "remove" my current capture source setting in the config program and try to re-add it again?

If you have a multi-monitor graphics card (like monitor and TV) make sure that the device you're trying to view the video on is set as "primary". What you're describing happens on my ATI if i have my viewing device as secondary.

If it creates a file then it sounds like the recording side of things is working fine. This makes me think its something wrong with the playback side of your setup (which is why I'd asked about video decoders).

Can you play any MPEG2 files on your machine? How about in Windows Media Player?

ok problem fixed - sort of. I just played an old file in Windows Media Player. Then I went to play an OLD gbpvr recording -the same file that worked an hour ago. It suddently wouldn't play!

Following down your thoughts about playback, I moved my setting from VMR7 (where it's always been) to overlay - guess what - now everything works! - I even see the "black" shows where I throught only audio was being recorded. Switch back to VMR7, nothing works. So I'm back to Overlay -

No idea why, but I'm happy again. Thanks for the suggestions - that solved the problem!
