Develop a p2p network amongst gbpvr users that would allow you to "record" shows that you may have missed in the past by downloading them.

Although it sounds illegal the Broadcast Flag law actually allows for it.

two options. Install waste (private encrypted p2p) and get some users going.

The other option I had started writing used ftp clients and servers to handle it. Ftp supports logins, download resumes etc...

So, what happened to that option? Cool Are you still developing it, or did you throw it away?

I still have the code around. I havent worked on it in a few months but I can pick it up if people find it useful. The concept is you setup some kind of ftp network.

Lets say you want to share a show with a friend your record a show on HBO for your poor friend whom can not afford it. One of you sets up a ftp server. This app can run at night and it would connect to the list of server and download the files with a given match. It would keep track of what files it downloads to not download files that it has already downloaded in the past.

If we build up a cluster like that we can do things like
someone sets up a HBO ftp site (records curb your enthuasm, sopranos etc...)

the plugin (not started yet just the backend app, the plugin would be easy) would gather a list of what is available on all of the machines kind of like a On Demand Menu. You select the shows you want and it gets downloaded. We can also set up mirrors of shows.

The other option is to look for a free open source bittorrent client and try to modify it.

ideally the bittorrent is cool since it can download from multiple sources at once. However it is more complicated and I do not find private bittorrent networks giving me their source.

I have done some Bittorrent Java work. I'll see what it would take to convert it over to a C# .net app...

the problem is the 3rd party peer to peer apps dont release their source code so I cant put hooks in to a plugin. We can just use a secure private peer to peer client to share the content around.
