updating pvr 150 drivers.

I reciently updated the drivers on my pvr 15o following instructions on Hauppauge's web site. I ran HCWclear to remove all drivers AND winTV applications.

I installed the new driver and stuff: PVR INF files: pvr150_inf.zip, WinTV-PVR Update: PVR150_22_22292.exe

BUT I missed the section on the bottom where it says: "You will also need to install #1 the latest WinTV2000 Application, #2 the latest Hauppauge Video decoders, #3 the latest Hauppauge remote control application and #4 the WinTV Scheduler ."

My question is - which of these do I really need to run gbPVR? After the HCWclear, I've only installed the latest Hauppauge remote control app. System appears to be running fine without having reinstalled anything else.

When things aren't broken, I tend to like to leave them be, but I'm wondering if I can improve my system by installing the Hauppauge Video Decoders... Or if there is some other reason to install the branded decoder?

note that since re-drivering, I seem to have lost the ability to use VMR7 and now run in overlay mode - Maybe that's related to the lack of the Haup video driver?

You need the drivers and you need to remote control app.

You only need to install WinTV2000 if you dont have other MPEG2 video decoders on your machine.

Possibly. VMR7 can be a bit shakey. I prefer VMR9, but overlay would probably be my second choice.

Yes, it's because you are using the old hauppauge (Intervideo non-css) video decoder, with your new drivers.
This usually doesn't cause any problems, but you can easily update the video decoder, and see if you can use VMR9 again.
Go into Add/Remove programs, and uninstall "Intervideo FilterSDK for Hauppauge", then install the new one.
If you don't see "Intervideo FilterSDK for Hauppauge", then you should install it anyhow. (That's the fancy name for the video decoder).

Perfect - I used to be limited to vmr7 (and just overlay since fiddling with things before), now with the advise given above, I can get vmr 9 - the difference is night and day - it's like getting a new TV! Thanks!

This may not be strictly GB-PVR realted, but I also recently purchased the PVR-150 (MCE version) and when I tried to install the updated decoder I got a message about not having hcwpnp32.dll library installed.

I did run HCWclear beforehand chose to remove everything. I d/l 3 of the files, (i) inf file and (ii) the drivers and (iii) the codec. I am not really fussed about the WinTV application at this stage. First two installed fine, the codec not at all (aboev error). I read on Hauppage Site that you "don't need the codec" as they are supplied by MS MCE. One or two folks at Sage and Frey forums had a similar problem, but resolution was unclear apart from HWClear.

I'd really like to see if the Hauppage SDKFilter works better on my system. Has anyone actually been able to install the codec, or does the s/w purposely recgnise the card as the MCE edition and not install them?

Or is it simply that I need to dig around in my PC a bit more and try and make sure EVERYTHING from the previous install is gone?

I got it to install.
I just got the 150mce in this afternoon.
I'm running 2000 if that makes a difference.
The software decoder wouldn't install for me untill I installed the updated TV2000 application.

I'll tell you this, I was running a compro gold + with software compression & it took a lot of fidling to get an ok recording.
This 150 & TV2000 comes with all the settings to the max as default.
I like that.
This is a sweet peice of hardware.
I could tell the fiance', but she'll just say i'm a geek & that she has no clue what i'm talking about.

So I come here.

I didn't really look at it too closely.
I just knew it was angry about not finding a file on the HD so I just thought it might be because i'm running an MCE card on windows 2000 & it was looking for a non-existant directory, or the Haupauge website told me to install things in a certain order for a reason.
All this new hardware these days, making me read the directions.


Anyone know the difference between wintv2000 & wintv32?
the 32 app just doesn't look as pretty to me.

The file is called "hcwpnp32.dll", and should be in your c:\windows\system32 folder.
It isn't always there, especially after HCWclear is run, and is a portion of WinTV2000.
You can install wintv2000, then install the decoder, then uninstall wintv2000 and it will be left behind.
This is the only issue I had installing an MCE card in regular XP.
The latest version of the CD from shspvr.com supposedly fixes this, but the latest version from Hauppauge does not.
I guess they figure that everyone with an MCE card, is running MCE....
