I just got my NextPVR working this past Friday. Hauppauge WinTV Dual Tuner, plugged into a Windows 10 Laptop, running NextPVR Server. (backend) I have a Amazon FireTV, loaded with Kodi Krypton, running the NextPVR Client. I have manually downloaded some Channel logos, renamed them to match the Channels and they show up on the Backend and on the Channel list of the Client, but not the Guide. Overall, the Guide on the NextPVR Client is not as awesome as the NextPVR Guide on the Laptop. Not all the channels are populated with content information. (What's now playing, next show, etc.) Are there more things I can do to get the Full usage of the Guide in Kodi? I', loving it so far and I just want to fully maximize the experience.

What guide source are you using? Most people in the US are using a Scheduels Direct account for guide data (since the broadcast EPG is next to useless or non-existent on most channels in North America).

I haven't added a source,so I guess it's whatever is set-up by default. (if anything) I have a TitanTV account. Is that a source that can be used?

Is that a Backend (NextPVR) or a FrontEnd (Kodi) setting?

I checked out Schedules Direct. Looks pretty slick and affordable. Signed up for trial will implement tonight. I wonder if this has any visual affect on the guide in the Kodi Frontend, or just better information. Thanks for the heads up.

I will report tomorrow.

Yes I uploaded a support file at one point that will give basic genre colouring. The information is not just better it is for a much longer period than default OTA updates.

The default with a digital tuner is to use the broadcast EPG. As mentioned, this is next to useless in North America, where you typically only get a few hours of listings if you've receiving via an antenna (ATSC), and typically next to nothing if you're on digital cable (QAM).

No.

Front end.

You can see how to set it up in NextPVR following the steps in this video:

Excellent! Totally worth the small pricetag. I love all of it. I have Openelec on another TV and the NextPVR Client does show the Channel Icons in the actual guide, as well as the channel listing. But the Krypton version has them only in the Channel listing. (no biggie) I'm now going to experiment with the software to strip out commercials and maybe resave under a different format. If anyone has any other cool ideas to further enhance the experience, by all means let me know. This is fun.

Continuing this thread ...

I am using Windows 10 and Schedules Direct. I noticed some differences in the guide between the NextPVR and Kodi/NextPVR Plugin versions.

1. The font in the NextPVR version is bold and ugly. Can I change it to look more like the Kodi plugin version?

2. The NextPVR background colors in each cell indicate that a show is set to record (red) or set to record season (maroon). In Kodi, the cell background colors seem to indicate the type of show and a small box indicated program to record. Is this adjustable in Kodi?

3. The guide in NextPVR shows about 2 weeks of programming. The guide in Kodi shows only a couple of days. Did I miss something?

4. The Kodi version has a vertical line indicating the current time. This is missing in NextPVR

There are several other differences between the NextPVR program and the Kodi plugin. Is there a listing or comparison available?

They're different apps - they definitely have lots of things different about how they work and how they display stuff. The NextPVR Kodi addon doesn't have any say in how Kodi displays things. It just supplies data about listings etc - Kodi decides how it wants to display things.

For #1, we can certainly help you tweak the skin if you want to use a different font etc. As a first step though, have you tried ticking the 'use lighter font' check box in the Settings->General screen?

#3 probably just need to reset the EPG data in Kodi to force it to cleanly reload

#4, NextPVR doesn't show a line, but we have little indicators at the top and bottom of the guide showing the current time, and we hightlight the currently airing shows in a slightly lighter color

For #2, the simple answer is "no." That said, there might be some skins that use the cell background color to indicate recording status, but none that I know of. It is, in theory, possible to mod whatever skin you're using in Kodi to do what you want, but it's not just a checkbox someone to click.

Thanks for the answers. I didn't realize that Kodi did its own grid display.

Selecting lighter font helped in the NextPVR stand alone program. The grid is much more pleaseant to view.
