I have been running 2 tuner cards for a total of 4 tuners for quite some time.

I just built a new machine & it has more PCI-E X1 slots. So I tried 3 cards for 6 tuners. I can scan & get channels for all 6 tuners without a problem. The problem is that I can only record with 4 tuners.

As a test I went into the program guide & started recording. I hit quick record on the first channel & checked the status utility to make sure a tuner was recording. This worked fine for the first 4 recordings. When I tried the 5th recording the show in the EPG turned red like it was recording. Then a few seconds later the red would go away. The show didn't record.

The cards that worked are:

Happauge 2250 (2 Tuner)
Avermedia Duet (2 Tuner)

These work..

When I add another:

Avermedia Duet (2 Tuner)

Everything looks alright. I can move the tuners up & down in priority. I can do a channel scan on all 6 tuners.. No problem there. Only problem is recording with more than 4 tuners. I can live with only 4 tuners but the extra 2 would be nice.

I hope I made this post understandable.. Wink

I am currently using eight tuners in four devices. A while ago, I did a test that recorded about fifteen shows simultaneously. The problem is not with the number of tuners.

Post the logs showing the problem where a recording fails. Tell us the time of the recording fail so that we know where to look in the logs. Thanks.

There is no limit in NextPVR on the number of tuners. That said, the drivers for some devices have a limit on the number of devices supported in a machine. ie, maybe the AverMedia Duet drivers only work correctly with a single device per machine.

As mentioned above, reproduce the problem then post the logs and we'll take a look.

Thank you. I will reinstall the 3rd tuner card in the machine. I ran both Duets with SageTV and never had a problem.

Which log file do you need?

At Settings --> About, there is a button that will zip all of the logs ... post the zip file. Thanks.

Thanks guys for your help. It turns out my second duet tuner card took a dump.

I deleted all devices in NextPVR. Of course I backed up the database & config files first. I removed the tuner cards that were working. I installed the tuner card in question. Both tuners scanned the channels just fine. But only one tuner would record a channel. It looks like one tuner is dead.

I then removed that card & installed my two good tuner cards. Recopied the database & config files over & everything is good.. Can record 4 channels at a time.

I think I'm gonna get the new Quad tuner card from Hauppage and call it a day. That will give me 8 good tuners.

Thank you for letting me know that there isn't a limit to the number of tuner cards.

Again Many Thanks

Phil
