Nextpvr and kodi 17.3 not communicating

Very first post--ever. After automatic update by MS (08/29/17) following error message on NextPvr pops us: 'unable to communicate with recording service'.

When I click on Live TV on Kodi the following error message appears: Unable to start service: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service NPVR Recording Service on computer '.'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it

Have been using the following:

HP OMNI 27xt All-In-One PC
AverMedia H323 Minicard Hybrid ATSC
WINDOWS 10 V1607

KODI V17.3
NEXTPVR v4.0.4 (170820)

I confess to being technologically challenged. Please, any step-by-step instructions to rectify this problem would be truly appreciated .

I'd start with something simple. Restart the machine. Sometimes updates can cause services to stop in funny ways and then not start properly.

Thank you, pkscout. Spent past couple of days trying that approach--even MS Tech Support Remote Access could not help. You folks are my only answer. Please, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The error message does not look like a Kodi error at all. It is possible that you screwed up the install by trying to change the default locations. I would suggest installing again and getting things working in the native app before trying Kodi.

Thank you mvallevand. I am beyond a tech newbie. NextPVR was initially downloaded from the website after Win 10 was automatically upgraded and Windows Media Center went away. Each time there is an update to Win 10 (the last one was 08/29/17), I lose any non-MS programs. This time even MS Echo was lost. Do you mean I should uninstall NextPVR? How do I go about doing that? Your help and patience is appreciated.

What exactly does this mean? Do the programs disappear from the Start Menu? Are the programs still there but issuing error messages and not working properly? What error messages do you see?

There should be a search box beside the Start button at the bottom left of the screen. Type "remove program" (without the quotes) into the search box and select "Add or remove programs" from the list that appears. You should then be able to uninstall NextPVR.
