I finally had a chance to do some checking. VLC still shows problems in a program that I recorded which shows pixellation within NPVR. It's not exactly the same. It doesn't show the same sort of pixellation, but it seems to just skip the worst of it. There is some pixellation but more skipping. I'd say it's either the signal itself or the recording process. My understanding of NPVR is that it records everything to a temp file and then plays it back, even with live TV so this seems to make sense.
Yep, sounding like something signal related. Yes, VLC has a slightly different appearance to what happens with broken / missing data, but it's a good enough check to see if there is corruption.
I think you said both your wife's coax feed and your coax feed are coming from the same splitter. If so just to eliminate any splitter or coax feed problems swap those two output feeds and see if the problem migrates to your wife's computer. While there make sure the coaxial connectors are tight.
