NBC Streams Shrinking?

When the new fall season started , I noticed my over-the-air NBC streams went down by half (from just under 6 GiB/hr to just under 3 GiB/hr); a reduction in bit-rate but not resolution (1080i).

Using MediaInfo, and comparing with my last remaining old (2014-01-02) file...

Is this network-wide or just Chicago (WMAQ)? They have not added another sub-channel.

no change here on KNBC. all my NBC recordings are about 6GB per hour (including those from last season), which is roughly equal to what you list for "Old File".

my guess would be that your local station is preparing to carry another HD sub channel (or multiple SD subs), so they're dropping the bitrate of their primary feed to make room.
