My wife has instructed me to get the NextPVR server out of the living room. Browsing the forums has shown me a few ways that would allow watching recorded shows but I dont either have the required hardware or setup skill. My current hardware to set up are an Amazon Fire tv, a google chromecast, and a sony smart blueray player. I also have the IOS app working fine, but it doesnt seem to be compatible with the chromecast. Will the samsung app work on other items? is there something I can setup with VLC to make this work? I have just started looking at the NEWA. I dont know if that is my next step or not. Can someone point me in the right direction? Or should I just go and buy a new piece of hardware...what is the cheapest and/or smallest option?

I think you may be looking for a Kodi client. The Kodi software is free, the hardware to run it on is what will cost you. I know you can side-load Kodi on an Amazon Fire Stick (not sure about Fire TV). I personally use Raspberry PI's as Kodi clients on all my TVs. I think the PI's are preferred as they have more horsepower, are easier to get the software on and configured and can be used for additional purposes as well.

A quick search shows Fire sticks at about $40 bucks and compete Pi kits at about $60. I also see where the Fire TV will load Kodi, do you know if the Kodi becomes another app on the fire tv or if the Kodi interface takes over the unit?

I have been playing around all afternoon, learned a lot of stuff that i will probably forget next week...but anyway. I loaded Plex onto the same box that has the NextPVR server, added the folder that NextPVR saves the videos in, and installed the plex app on my Fire TV. My off the cuff test seemed to work fine. Is there some big honking dragon about to blow ice all over my setup? can these two coexist?

Kodi becomes another app.

Plex can be used to display your library. What you may miss (I haven't used Plex much), is the ability to skip commercials, and Plex may cost depending on the client.
