I've been using this latest version of NVPR for the past two or three days. It plays and records IPTV programs well. It plays downloaded video files (.mkv/.mp4) well. It will not record my HDHR channels so they can be watched (smeary and jerky with constant freezing). Emby can't play those recordings either, for what it's worth. I've also noted the NPVR icon stays red constantly, even when nothing is being recorded. I will continue to play with it for a day or so more and if nothing improves I'll see if one of the earlier versions of NPVR will work properly.

I've not seen any other reports of issues with recording from an HDHR.

Do you see the same problem if you play the file in VLC?

Do you have any registry setting set to '1' in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\NPVR? If so, delete them and restart.

No registry key settings that you mentioned. Since I wrote the first post I changed the settings on both the server and client Decoder section and set all to LAV and unchecked the box for using the old decoder. I also changed the BDA Compatability Mode on HDHR from Windows Media Center to NPVR. Recording is now much better although skipping is not quite right (hangs occasionally on a skip). I'll continue to play with this and let you know how it goes. VLC would also not play the files before these latest changes.

Is this a client/server issue? ie, does it play fine on the server itself?

There are several posts suggesting that the best results are achieved with this set to Default.

It plays a little better on the server than the client but not enough to really matter. After further testing, I've discovered that when I simultaneously record a program from both IPTV and cable, the cable recording is unviewable while the IPTV recording is fine. I have no idea what that means. When I just record a cable channel, it is fine. It appears there's some conflict between IPTV and cable. Also, I'll mention again, any time I record from IPTV the NPVR icon stays red from that point on, as if something is recording, when in fact nothing is being recorded.

I had seen other posts, I think, that indicated using the Windows setting was better. It's working great for me now with the NPVR setting but I'll try Default later and see how that works.

Can you supply an example recording? They run in different processes, so shouldn't interfere with each other.

I'm assuming you're not using wifi? If so, maybe HDHR+IPTV is too much network traffic?

I'll record a simultaneous program when I can make it a small one so the file won't be so large. I have the fastest cable speed Cox offers and my client/server connection is ethernet cat 5.

My guy feeling is that your interpretation of what is happen is incorrect, and I'm certainly seeing no problem with doing IPTV and a digital device at the same time. If is consistently doing it for you though, there is some additional stuff we can turn on to capture the streams as they arrive, so we can see what is coming from your network interface.
