Zap2it.com changed it's website completely this week (what a mess). so if you used Zap2it as the link for your epg guide it will not connect to the site. if you go to http://zap2xml.awardspace.info/ for help to change to TV Guide it does work. i had to do it and it's working. you will need to create an account with TV Guide and favorite the channels that you use.
You will need to edit "UpdateEPG.bat" with -z and change the user name and password. save and right click it to run, and see if it workings the guide, you may have to to play with it to get it right.
Also, you will need to go back into NextPVR, settings, and change all XMLTV Channels in the bulk setting with the updated/changed linked channels.

Yes, thank you, fla. The error capture definitely seems more helpful. Using your DOS, I'm getting results like this now:

So, I'm thinking Martin is right about it being a permissions problem. I've tried giving permission to everyone (including BATCH and SERVICE) for full control of that cache directory and everything in it, but still get the same permission errors. Probably there's an easy fix if you know what you're doing, but I can't yet find it in any of the forums here.

The NextPVR Recording Service (and any batch files that it calls) run in the System user account.

That is the start of the problem since no one seems to search it out. Changing the service to run as the user who installed zap2xml will probably solve the problem. Alternatively from what I gather you can also install ActivePerl and the modules required globally instead of userspace and point the -C command line option the the correct config file

Just delete the entire cache directory itself and when the recording service runs zap2xml.exe it will get recreated and repopulated with appropriate permissions.

Graham - Thanks, I see that. SYSTEM also has full permissions for the entire Scripts directory and contents. The batch epg update still fails to run from inside npvr, still due to lack of permissions.
fla - Thanks, that makes sense, but did not work for me. Even though I deleted the cache directory, emptied it in NPVR, rebooted, zap2xml STILL won't run from inside NPVR. I get the same error messages about deleting files in the cache directory and permission denied. I don't know why its trying to delete files that no longer exist in a directory that no longer exists.
Martin - thanks, that als makes sense, but does not work for me. I changed the service to run as the user/Administrator who installed zap2xml. Windows accepts the change in ID and password, but when I then try to restart the npvr recording service, Windows says it can't start due to a logon failure.
Either I am the stupidest person in the world, or Windows security has become a maddening nightmare. Or maybe both...

Note this is a relative path, so when run from the recording service, it might have a current path of c:\windows\system32, so trying to delete c:\windows\system32\cache\1514966400000.html.gz etc.

Maybe try putting a "CD ........" command at the start of your batch file, to explicitly change to the directory where you want zap2xml.exe to run from, so that it's looking for the 'cache' subdirectory in the right place.

I don't think so. I did get a donation yesterday. Clicking the link now, I do get at least as far as a paypal page.

Maybe you tried Paypal was having an outage?

Looking on http://zap2xml.awardspace.info, a couple of command line parameters that stand out to me are:

-c <cacheDirectory> (default = "cache")
-C <configuration file> (default = "~/.zap2xmlrc")
