Hi,

I have the time shifting setting set to "EPG Based" in npvr so that when I hit record while watching live TV, I don't lose what I've watched so far. This doesn't seem to work in Kodi, as I painfully just discovered. Smile It starts a new recording from the time I hit record.

I was surprised the behavior was different since I figured the recording service controlled all of this logic internally, and presumably the buffer file is there on disk when Kodi asks to record the same exact show that's being buffered and played. Can I force npvr to obey the timeshift setting when watching on a Kodi client?

Sorry, 'EPG vased' timeshift is only available in NextPVR itself. In Kodi you get the 'time based' timeshift buffer.

Does the NEWA API expose anything to trigger that same behavior, or is it just not exposed beyond NextPVR itself? I guess I could do a hack that renames the file in my buffer directory to prevent it from being deleted and then add it manually as a recording.

No it is not exposed, I have asked for EPG mode and timeshifting for X-NEWA since 2013.

Its stems from a design decision I made back when I first implemented EPG mode, where I naively didn't consider XBMC and other potential clients, and important parts of it's implementation are in NextPVR.exe (the UI), which isn't used when you're streaming to another client.

I have go a note to investigate an EPG Mode bug for the next release, so at the same time I'll re-familiarize with all the different aspects of how it works, and look into how much work would be involved to re-engineer so that other clients could use it.

Thank you sub! With a lot of people using raspberry pis etc with Kodi as clients, this will become even more important moving forward.
