Hi,

Just installed my MVP which works perfectly with the Hauppauge software. However when i run it with GB-PVR it does not boot beyond the 3 blue bar unless I run the MVPMediaSVc service. I thought I was having IP issues but the MVP is picking up a DHCP address from my server on the network although it is not added to the subnet table unless MVPMediaSVc service is started. I can ping it though as the debug log on the server tells me the address supplied.

I understand that you should not require the MVPMediaSVc service to be running and I would prefer that it did not as others have reported issues.

Please help if you can. The hardware is as follows:

MVP Model 86002 REV E1
GBPVR v9310

From reading a few recent posts on this:
1) Both MVPMedia and MVPMediaSvc which are the Hauppauge services must be stopped, (and set to manual) not just the MVPMedia service.

2) Make sure your XP built in firewall is turned off.

Sub, do you know if the MVP requires the DHCP server to give it the server it needs to boot from (in case it's not the same host as the DHCP server)?
I have that problem with another device (a X terminal) that required the DHCP server to set a specific option (option 66 ascii "192.168.254.1") on my router...

No, it doesnt. It does a UDP broadcast soon afterwards to locate the server to use.

Thanks for the responses.

Just to confirm: Both services are set to manual. When they are I cannot communicate with the server and have 3 bars. If I start the MVPMediaSVc service the MVP will then boot an start GBPVR. There are no firewalls insalled/active on this computer.

Still having the same problem.

Hi Octavius - I don't mean to question what you are saying about the firewall but some people did not know that XP SP2 installs and activates a software based fierwall if you did know disregard this:
right click on "my network places"
select properties
right click "local area connection and select properties
select the "Advanced" Tab at the top and press "settings"
The XP firewall should be set to "off" there as well

Its not just XP SP2 installation. There have been a couple Windows Update's which have re-enabled the firewall, even if you had previously disabled it.

Also, when you get the menu on the screen, don't forget to "permit" Norton Antivirus Worm Script blocking (if NAV is installed) for GBPVR.exe. or you will get the dreaded

"Failed to communicate with the Recording Service" error.

I can't remember if you also need to allow other permissions.

See

Hi Everyone,

Again thanks for your responses and I am in no way offended by any firewall suggestions as I work in IT and know all about users (and even myself) missing the simple solution. Infact 9 times out of 10 it is the simple solution Smile .

To confirm the box itself has no firewall enabled and is an XP:SP1 installation as I have got round to upgrading this one yet however tommorow maybe the day that happens.

As it stands right now though I have to run the MVPMediaSVc service for the MVP to work with GBPVR. I shall do an SP2 install and see where I go from there.
