I want to use NextPVR (latest version) to record OTA broadcasts. Of course, being OTA the weather effects reception. Sometimes I can receive up to 18 channels when the weather is right. Other times I can only get 12 channels. The problem is that NextPVR freezes on every channel when the signal is weak. The total program freezes. Can't do anything with it except shut it down with the Task Manager. Is this a likely bug or is there anything I can do to address this? (I have an HDHR Dual network tuner).

Can you include logs showing the problem?

If you've got really marginal channels though, that are often not there, or bad reception, you might be better off just deleting those channels.

This problem still exists. When a channel is weaker a Windows 10 message shows up on the window title bar saying that NextPVR is not responding. When this happens NextPVR just freezes up. I'm new at this, but given the vagaries of weather and how it effects OTA reception I find it hard to believe that NextPVR cannot gracefully exit from a weak channel and instead simply freezes up. My HDHomerun dvr software displays a message that the stream cannot be played and the program continues running, which is what I would expect. Makes me wonder what will happen the first time I try to schedule recording a TV show. Does NextPVR just freeze up if the weather happens to be bad and the signal is weak at the time of recording?

I've never seen the problem you describe myself, or any widespread reports of it, so at this stage I'm assuming there isn't major problem. Admittedly, I've never really seen the weather have much effect on my signal though.

It shouldn't just freeze up, but it's hard to guess what it's doing on your machine at the time. You didn't post your logs though, so we don't have much info to go on.

To give me a decent idea what the process is doing at the time you have this problem, you should probably download ProcDump from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/procdump.

When the process is frozen up, run the following command line:

ProcDump.exe -ma <process-id>

You can get the process-id from the Task Manager. It's list next to the process name in the PID column. This create a dump file, which I can then load up in the debugger to see what is happening.

NextPVR sends messages to log files all of the time that it is running. The messages in the log files assist with fixing problems. It would help us if you are willing and able to send us your log files.

The next time that the problem occurs, please do the following ... 1) Do not close NextPVR and while NextPVR is not responding ...2) Use Windows File Explorer and go to C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Logs and copy npvr.log to another file (this will ensure that the log does not get deleted when NextPVR is closed) ... 3) Close and restart NextPVR ... 4) Go to NextPVR Settings --> About and click the button to zip your logs 5) Attach the log zip file to a post and tell us the time that the problem occurred. Thank you.
