NextPVR IPTV Windows client question

When using a a Windows IPTV client does the NextPVR server just serve the url for the client to then play on it's own or does it actually serve the stream? If possible, and it's not already the case, I think it would be a good idea to let the client handle the stream on its own to take some stress off of the server and also to take some stress off of the network.

I expect that there are other IPTV clients that work this way. NextPVR is mostly used to record TV shows from tuner devices or from IPTV sources. The service that performs the recording needs to be the component that connects to the tuner or to the IPTV source to be able to record. NextPVR allows you to pause and rewind Live TV ... this functionality is also provided by the recording service.

Another alternative would be for NextPVR to allow multiple Windows clients to share the recording scheduling db and libraries. I may look in to trying this by using a shared network drive. Gotta research a little more. From what I think I know I don't think it will work but I'm going to try.

You can install NextPVR on a second machine and have the NextPVR frontend on the second machine connect to the database (that stores EPG and recording info) on the first machine … NextPVR Settings --> Devices --> Act as Client PC … http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Client.PC

Thanks for the reply. I'm already doing that. Read my original post and you'll see why I'm looking to try the above.

NextPVR doesn't play the URL directly it is always buffered to a file before playback even on the host. There is a way in the Kodi xnewa plugin to do this, which I used with an hdhr, but NextPVR loses control of devices so you might end up losing recordings.
