Recordings with Unicode characters in the name faile to record.

Hi, I've been having an issue the last few weeks with one particular series, Mayan's M.C. and it was driving me crazy trying to figure out the problem. I would see it recording the show, but the next day when I went to watch it, the show was missing. Finally after the 3rd time trying to re-record the show, I think I figured out the problem.

It seems because these latest episodes have extended characters in the show name, it can't record the show properly. Here's the log segment from the latest attempt:

It only happens on this series, and only happened on Episode 2 and 3, Episode 1 recorded fine. and of course when you look at the names of those 3 episodes:

2 and 3 both had extended characters. (and it seems the upcoming episode will be named "Murciélago/Zotz" so this will be an ongoing issue it seems)

I was running 4.11 still, but I upgraded to the latest, 4.2.2 because I saw some mention in the notes about a Unicode fix. however it doesn't seem to have helped this issue.

Recorded fine on my machine, however, batch files attempting to run Comskip and VideoRedo failed. I simply renamed the .ts file (replacing with a u and o) and all worked fine...

It appears your ParallellProcessing.bat file is what's failing (not the recording itself). I'm surprised the .ts file didn't at least get created though.

I'd have to agree with JavaWiz - NextPVR should be able to cope with Unicode.

However... I see you're using the NetworkRecorder plugin for recording, rather than any of the built in devices. It's possible this doesn't like Unicode?

Are you sure it is Unicode and not utf-8? Regardless I would need to see the Ceton logs. I just pass a file to the Ceton recording app.

It is interesting that the preferred name that NextPVR logs is the name before it parses out invalid filename characters, in this case the slash.

Not sure why you are not using the built in support or the Ceton at this point.

Well My Ceton is old and they won't make Windows 10 drivers for it. So I use the win8 drivers. And it seems NPVR and the win 8 drivers running on windows 10 don't seem to play nice. I get more reliable support with SageDCT method. It's true, it could be SageDCT which has the problem.

But JavaWiz gave me an idea, I could put a search/replace at the end of UpdateEPG.bat to strip out the characters and replace them with normal ones. This tool is a godsend for stuff like that:
