Kodi says it's playing live tv, but doesn't actually switch to the video

Hi all, I posted this on the kodi forum in the NextPVR section and got no responses. So I'm hoping I may get a little more luck over here.


I've been using NextPVR with Kodi for years, and had zero issues. Unbelievably reliable. We were away from home for 2 days last week, and when we returned live tv wouldn't play at all. I was on 17.6 so thought "I know, i'll just try updating to Leia and it will remedy any issue I had" (stupid thought, I know). Nope, still no worky.
Basically I go to the guide in Kodi, select the channel to watch and then in the top right of the screen next to the clock is shows a "playing" arrow next to the channel and show I selected. But nothing else happens. I am still shown the channel list or guide, with no tv video or audio. So next I updated my firmware on my HDHR Prime, installed the latest NextPVR. Still the same issue.

Since then I have been running through all of the settings to make sure they are all as they should be, and I can't work it out.

NextPVR standalone program works with live tv. If i select the HDHR PVR in Kodi it works fine. I can set up NextPVR in Emby, and it all works fantastically. I have since reinstalled all of the separate components but alas no improvement.

Anyone got any suggestions? I hadn't changed a single setting in Kodi/NextPVR backend, so I'm stumped as to why it has just stopped working. I can attach logs if necessary, but which one is the once to attach? I found a few logs with different titles when I took a look earlier.

Here is my setup,
HDHR Prime - Spectrum cablecard
Kodi v18 beta 3 (but problem was originally in 17.6 too)
NextPVR backend
NextPVR selected in Kodi
I use Schedules Direct for EPG, just thought I'd throw in that info

I can attach logs if necessary, but which one is the once to attach? I found a few logs with different titles when I took a look earlier.

Go to NextPVR Settings --> About and click the button to zip the logs. Create a Kodi debug log ... https://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file/Advanced ... Attach the logs to a post telling us the time that Live TV failed so that we know where to look in the logs.

Do recordings still record and playback?

Here are the logs:

NextPVR log is attached. Around 10am is the time to look.

I recreated the issue a second time for the Kodi log, which happened at around 10:05am. That is uploaded to https://paste.kodi.tv/yerepugoke

Older recordings play back fine. Attempting to record now does not work. I have just noticed that my guide info is incorrect for NextPVR as opposed to when I am using the HDHR PVR, but that may well be due to me messing with settings in an attempt to fix my problem.

Please let me know if I need to give any more info, I greatly appreciate your help. We have a week old baby and I think my wife will kill me if the TV isn't working soon haha.

Is your G drive local or a network drive? Also the Kodi log isn't cnonnecting to the server I would reboot the server to be safe.

Thank you for replying. G drive is local. And I restarted the server but still the same issue. It's an HTPC with Kodi and the NextPVR backend running on the same machine.

Do you have any guide data if you look in NextPVR and not Kodi? It appears you do but nothing is getting passed perhaps there is a firewall issue or a problem Kodi? Perhaps reinstall 17.6

looks like a Kodi time shifting bug I have seen before. If you turn of time shifting in Kodi does it play?

Well, I was going to try installing 17.6 but figured I'd try your suggestion regarding time shifting. I disabled it, and live tv worked like a dream. So I owe you many thanks for that! Now I have to figure out what this time shift bug entails, and if it's something I can remedy. Thanks again for your help!

I don't know anything about the major time shifting changes in v18 but in 17.6 it is hit and miss
