On a new scan of Astra satellite channels, I'm seeing some channels (e.g. BBC 1 HD) appearing multiple times.

It looks like they're on the same frequency/polarisation but with different SIDs.

So I have two channels showing such as
Freq:10847/V/23000 SID:6941
Freq:10847/V/23000 SID:6951

If I merge, only the Freq:10847/V/23000 SID:6951 one seems to be retained.
If scan again, the scan shows Freq:10847/V/23000 SID:6941 as a new channel to be added

If I merge again, it looks like only the Freq:10847/V/23000 SID:6941 is retained this time (i.e. it looks like only the last cannel added is retained, over writing what exists on that frequency)

Is this supposed to happen (i.e. you can't have two sources for a channel on the same frequency)?

Are they regional variations? BBC1 London ... BBC1 Midlands ... and so on?

If they are, they're not showing as such.
I'm seeing 2 different SIDs on the same frequency for BBC1 HD, BBC2 HD, BBC4 HD and CBEEBIES HD so doubt this is anything regional.
Lyngsat and Kingofsat only show one SID for each channel.
Both SID variations seem to tune ok if I leave them un-merged.
Just trying to understand if NPVR can't have two channels with the same name on the same frequency with different SIDs merged without one being replaced.

It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Interesting. So looks like it may well be setting up for a regional HD variation. It's confusing because the extra channels doesn't identify themselves for ROI.

I'll go back to my scan and check I've got the right "Network" SIDs in my merged channels.

The question about what NPVR allows in merges still applies should anyone want to have both "Network" and "ROI" versions merged (given they have the same channel name).
