Cannot enable time shift on Android

Hello,

I am currently running the latest version of NextPVR on a Windows 10 machine as the host. I am able to successfully access it using Kodi 17.3 from other windows machines and timeshift works. I used to be able to access it from my Odroid running the Libreelec also with no issues.

I recently moved, and when I reconnected everything I am unable to use NextPVR from the Odroid with timeshift enabled. As soon as I tune to a channel it freezes and returns a "tuner not available" error. If I disable timeshift, everything works normally. I thought it might be a problem with the Odroid not having access to the directory the buffer is stored in, but I gave it the same sharing permissions as the other shared folders.

I've attached my logs, if anyone has an idea of what else to try, I would appreciate it.

The client seems to be trying to stream but we would need to see the NextPVR logs to see what is happening from the server perspective. I know there are current design issues with time shifting with NextPVR because of Kodi changes and perhaps with amlogic it is more prevalent. I will see if I can see anything funny on my Khadas Vim sometime this week.

Although the logs show difficulties with recordings, perhaps because the share wasn't available, nothing seems out of place with the timeshift on the server. I will let you know how my testing goes.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I discovered at least from a high level what was causing my issue.

For whatever reason, on my Odroid running Libreelec, I can only successfully enable timeshift when it is plugged directly into my router. If I use wireless or go through a daisy chained switch, it fails and I the "tuner not available" error.

On windows machines, I don't have any issues. There doesn't seem to be any other issue with the network connection as I have good bandwidth an no packet loss, but I am out of ideas on what could be causing this.

I've been continually updating both Kodi and Next-PVR since July and versions don't have an impact. Appreciate any ideas you might have.

That simply sounds more like network trouble on your personal network or device and should have nothing to do with Kodi or NextPVR.

Actually, Timeshift is not working on Android still with 18 beta 5. This is not a network problem, that was there from the start from the times that the nextpvr addon was not working on windows Kodi as well till changes were made to the windows kodi nextpvr addon to support the new Kodi 18 api. Question is: do we know who develops the android kodi nextpvr addon so that we possibly get the developer implement the same changes done to the windows kodi nextpvr addon?

No one does. There is no development or testing of the NextPVR addon on Android devices. When it comes to Android, the kodi project is just relying on the fact the generic codebase can also be compiled for Android (or stacks of other oddball platforms), and then there is a lot of crossed fingers hoping the same code just works fine on those platforms. This is the case for most Kodi addons, and usually it works out ok.

Given the OP's comments that it works over wired networking I stand by my original statement. My feeling overall is that there are other issues with the new implementation of timeshifting that causes problems that go beyond Android.
