newbie here having issues

Excuse the ignorance, as I say im very new to this.

so , I have an nvidia shield with helix iptv . I want to record something tomorrow so just having a play with it.

What ive found....

the epg doesn't work. ive entered in the xlmtv url from helix but nextpvr says its in the wrong format
sometimes the channels play sometimes it says unable to find available capture device 403 forbidden and sometimes the screen goes black and nothing happens
When it does record it invariably fails .

is there an easy fix? is this common ? is it my iptv or just me being stupid?

Like I said sorry if stupid questions but ive only been playing with it for an hour

NextPVR makes logs of what it is doing. Reboot to reset the logs. Recreate the various problems and make a note of the times that you did things and saw symptoms of problems.

Go to NextPVR Settings --> About and click the button to create a zip of the logs ... Attach the zip to a post telling us the time that you did things and the symptoms that you saw so that we know where to look in the logs. Thanks.

Simply stated, NextPVR has two components ...1) The NextPVR Server Service runs continuously and receives the stream from tuners and from IPTV providers and 2) the NextPVR app that you see on the screen.

This is an error from your IPTV provider. How many streams (channels) does your provider allow you to receive simultaneously? It might be that NextPVR is attempting to receive multiple channels to record shows and to display Live TV and your provider is saying "Forbidden".

Helix packages refer to "0 Additional Connections" which I assume means you can only have one channel accessed at any one time. This limitation does not make it's use particularly good with a PVR.
Have you tried accessing Helix from VLC to see if your subscription package works reliably?
IPTV services are notoriously unreliable and many re-broadcast channels illegally. (I do not know about Helix specifically as they do not publish a channel list on their website)
