Windows 10 Record Issues

Following the announcement by MS that Windows 7 is no longer supported, I have upgraded my OS on the desktop to Windows 10.  Whereas I had no problems with NPVR on W7 and recordings never failed when the PC was in sleep mode, I cannot get NPVR to record in the same way on W10. I have tried various obvious steps, like removing the sign-in on W10 when coming out of sleep mode, and ensuring the NPVR Recording service is running before putting the PC into sleep mode, but the PC stays asleep and the recording is just ignored and fails. I have also checked the BIOS settings and made all the "Wake Up" settings Enabled, but still no luck. But if I take it out of sleep mode manually, the recording starts with no problem (while still in the time window).

And just as a final check, I installed NPVR and the (USB) digital TV decoder on my Dell laptop, checked I could receive Live TV, but it too does not come out Sleep Mode to record a programme; so I assume it must be an issue with NPVR.

Can anyone help resolve this?

NextPVR simply asks Windows to wake the PC so it will be in the Window configuration or issues with ACPI. If you upload the logs we can confirm NextPVR is making the requests.

Thanks, uploading the log file. The (first) failed recording was for "Caught Red Handed" on BBC1 at 11:45. I have had a quick look at the log file in a text editor and I can see an entry that says "No C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Scripts\Wakeup.bat"; could that be the problem? I have checked that path and only one .bat file exists: placeholder.bat.

Appreciate the help.

No that's fine. This file wouldn't normally exist. It's an optional file you can create one if you want to have something custom run each time the machine wakes up.

As far as I can tell, NextPVR is living up to it's end of the bargain by successfully asking Windows to be awake at recording time. Whether it'll do that is entirely up to windows though. (ie, sometimes users have have bios settings etc which stop machine waking)

Yes it is setting things ok, and apparently failing to resume.

You do have some tuner driver issues not sure it that is part of the problem but that can't be a good thing.

Thanks for the replies, but firstly, the decoder is working fine now as I can see Live TV with no problem. Secondly, I have trawled through all the BIOS settings and I cannot find anything that would stop the PC resuming from Sleep mode (though I cannot think the BIOS would change just by upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7).
The fact still remains that NPVR would come out of sleep mode to record with no problem under Windows 7 but will not under Windows 10. Is there anyone who might know how to change the W10 settings to resume from sleep mode, or is this a question for Microsoft?

I assume you disabled fast startup and have left it off, that seems to be a big problem. This is a Microsoft question, although your irratic tuner needs to be locked at. I'd make the NPVR Recording Service do a delayed start to see if that helps.

You will also need to change the Unattended Sleep Timeout - in Windows 7 the default is 6 minutes, in Windows 10 it is 2 minutes, which is not enough time to get the recording started - so the computer goes back to sleep   Sleepy

Here is how to add the option to Power Settings  https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7213...ndows.html
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I don't think Windows 10 drivers exist for legacy ATI tuners, so it's fortunate if waking from sleep is the only issue.

Thank you so much for all the replies, it really is appreciated. I have applied your suggestions and increased the Unattended Sleep Timeout to 10 minutes, but still no success. I also checked some of the MS Support sites and tried changing the Sleep mode to Hibernate, also without success. It does seem from many replies that the ATI decoder may be incompatible with W10, so perhaps you can suggest a suitable replacement?

Failing that I may well revert to Windows 7; everything worked so much better even if it is no longer supported.
