Hi,
I would like to run Nextpvr as my PVR.. I am a bit overwhelmed by all the info.. I currently have Mythtv running on a Ubuntu 18.04 desktop. It runs pretty good, but after about 15 years I'm looking at moving to this.. I see that Nextpvr i s running on linux,so I would like to do that also..
My current setup is Ubuntu,18.04, 4tb drives and the the tuners are 2 HD-PVR and 2 STB's Almost all those drives are full of Movies and TV series.. If i was to switch to windows for the OS and  Nextpvr it would take a month to convert the files.. One question I would like to ask though is could I serve my media across my network and install Nextpvr on a windows 10 machine I have?
Using what I have can anyone suggest a minimal setup to get me started and then I can customize and make it to my liking...

Thanks, Greg

You have to decide which backend platform your want to use and what client you want to use. If you are already using Kodi, you barely will notice the difference.

The only compelling reason to move to a Windows box is for power management. If you are using Firewire for your tuners you will SOL with Windows.

To answer your question you can configure your Ubuntu server as a samba server and NextPVR can read/write to it. 15 years ok when I came from MythTV and mvpmc, MythTV files and comskip weren't playable in other environments, I assume that has changed.

Thanks for the reply. I do have Kodi installed and Plex and Emby.. They all have their good and bad points. I do use firewire, but one of my STB's quit working and I had to get different ones.. The new ones only have 1 port each, so daisy chain is out of the question. I have been trying to get an Iguanaworks blaster working, but Lirc is a mess..
I already have samba installed and running, I think I will put Nextpvr on my win10 laptop and see how it goes...
Thanks for your time.

On linux I have 3 STB's two with firewire, one with firewire + IR, and one with IR. I use iguanaworks, and once I found out the the set transmiters option was really important (hidden deep on their wiki) it has been flawless even via TCP. Previously I had a USB Hauppauge tuner just for IR, never could my HDPVR blasting to be stable.
