Connecting to non-standard port

Hi all,
How do I connect to a remote NextPVR v5 installation on a non-standard port via the android app?
I've tried
ip
ip:port
ip port

the port is correctly forwarded as I can access via a browser externally.. I just can't seem to connect remotely via the app.

Also, when I'm on the same lan as the server, how comes I don't need to enter a pin or user/pass to connect?
Isn't that a security issue? Not that I could do much if on someone elses network apart from cue up a few recordings they may not want... but shouldn't there be something in place?

If someone gives you local lan access but is worried about you using NextPVR they would need to change the userid password and pin.

That's the bit I don't get... I've changed the password and pin on my network, but I never had to enter any details whatsoever, the client picked it up and connected.. I didn't have to enter a username/password or pin? So how did it connect when it wouldn't have known any details?

It's an intentional design decision. NextPVR is intended for home personal use, and I decided it's fine to allow auto discovery and connection on a local network NextPVR.

There is a config.xml setting that can be changed for those that don't want this behaviour.

Any ideas regarding the non-standard port? Is there a certain way I need to enter this in to the app to be able to connect?

In the address field you can enter either "ipaddress" (for default 8866) or "ipaddress:port".

I've tried that, have ensured my username/password and pin are all non-standard.
I'm getting the error "Failed to connect to NextPVR. Check NextPVR is running, and restart the application".

I'm running NextPVR as a service with a specific user.
I've even stopped the service and just running it from .exe but still giving me an error.

For the record, I encrypt logging messages around login failures, so the logs are safe to post publicly.

I can't tell what your pin is, but I can tell it's trying to login in with the wrong pin number.

One thing to look out for is that some times browser (looking at you firefox) see that the pin number is a password field (so that it shows asterisk characters), and decides to auto populate the user's stored password into that field. (changing the pin from what the user expected, to their site login)

I'm using Brave Browser on both desktop and Android.

On the app, I have manually typed in the password, likewise on the web interface, I have manually typed it in (the pin field) to update it. Then I tried with cutting and pasting in to both fields (on website and app), but it isn't working.
The pin is correct as Kodi connects absolutely fine.
