DVB EPG - How?

I can't seem to get the DVB EPG working. I'm using a Nova-t PCI and HVR-1300 (but only the Nova is currently set up in GB-PVR). Channels were found (using scantype 2 - scantype 1 gives me an error) but I don't seem to get any EPG data, even after selecting Update EPG. Is there anything that needs setting up?

Is a specific version of psisdecd.dll required? (I'm using MCE2005 whereas most people probably have XP SP2 with KB896626)

You need to be using <BDAScanType>1</BDAScanType> for this to work. I intially posted with 1/2 swapped in the change log of the release announcement, but I've corrected this.

If BDAScanType 1 was working for you, you just need to do the following to get it working.

1/ create capture source
2/ configure BDA card type
3/ set EPG to 'DVB EPG'
4/ click 'map epg channels to digital channels'
5/ config will then scan for channels.
6/ select those channel from the list that you want to receive.
7/ config will then update the EPG.

You also need to be very patient, something that I find quite difficult!

I live in the UK and have a Nova-T USB2.

The total time to load the EPG the first time was 40 minutes for seven days worth, broken down by the Config messages as follows:
Starting BDA device: 90 Seconds
Starting Scan: 7 Minutes
Per Channel: 7 Minutes

For each Channel it increments a counter of shows for the first couple of minutes but then stays static for up to five minutes, before moving on to the next channel.

I did not create a new capture source as I did not want to have to remap my channels. I simply updated the EPG to DVB in Config, emptied the EPG and then Updated it. After cancelling it three times thinking it had locked up I left it running and it worked!

Thanks Sub, never could get the EPG updating automatically using XMLTV so I am optimistic about this method.

Can you go and update the EPG again. You'll get more information this time around. There is a known bug causes the 'Starting Scan' message to stick first time around.

Hi Sub,
Kicked it off again, Starting BDA Device only took 3 seconds this time but Starting Scan took nearly seven minutes again - channel scanning is still running.

Hmm thats odd. For me it tells me what transponder its scanning, and how many listings have been found so far. See screenshot below.

Quote:Per Channel: 7 Minutes
That part is not correct. It scans for listing by transponder, not by channel. It'll get all the listing for all the channels on that transponder in one go.

Thanks for the replies. I can't use BDAScanType 1 on my MCE2005 installation. I've just booted to XP Pro SP2 and BDAScanType 1 works fine there, along with the EPG. Smile

Just another reason for me to ditch that Media Center nonsense I guess.

Edit: I'm also seeing the slow data import issue. For every mux the "Found xxx shows..." count will shoot up really quickly during the first minute but then will sit for a few minutes. Then it will move onto the next mux.

It's a first release with DVB EPG support so its not perfect. Over time I'll work out what shortcuts I can take to get the data quicker etc.

The number in brackets is the EIT table number. The first two tables (0x50, 0x51) seem to contain the useful data in the broadcasts that I've checked, but the spec says it can be in 0x50 - 0x5F, so I need to check all sixteen tables. From 0x52 - 0x5F seems like a big waste of time, but I thought I'd better go through the motions in cases these were used by other broadcasters.

Thanks. I'll take a look at the muxes with something like TSReader and let you know how much data there is.

I tried this solution with my Nova-T and scanning also took that long time... after scanning for half an hour there were no shows found at all.
Could this be a problem with that early version of the DVB EPG feature or did I do something wrong?
