Firestick TV 4K, Kodi and NextPVR - buffering / crashes

Hi!

I just bought a Firestick TV 4K in the hope of using it as a front end / client for my NextPVR TV server (which is running Version: 5.0.3.200415 and happily serves TV to all the other devices in my house)

I was easily able to install Leia 18.7 using the 'Downloader' app on the Firestick and also easily installed the next-pvr Addon.
Unfortunately whilst live TV seems to stream OK, whenever I try and play TV I have recorded the stream might play a few seconds or buffer and then crash or crash immediately.

I don't *think* it is network speed related as I have a pretty decent 11ac wireless signal in the room.  Other devices in the same spot e.g. my chromecast running Libreelec work fine.

I was wondering whether the Live streams are in a different format to the recordings and whether I should be using hardware or software encodings either on the Server or Kodi itself. Currently I have the server set to 'leave recordings in native format'

Has anyone got any advice on how to get this working or any settings I can try to get recordings to play back?

I suspect you might be having the same issue as many Kodi 18.7 users on Android, they've pulled it from the Play Store. There is a potential patch you could sideload https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2951756 or revert to 18.6. If that doesn't work logs please.

Not sure why you aren't running the current NextPVR version though.

Thanks so much for your reply, I'll revert to 18.6 and also update my server and then report back

I have been running 18.6 on 3 different firesticks without issue. I usually wait a couple of weeks or so when a new version of Kodi comes out before installing so that others can tread through the debug process and avoid issues such as 18.7 presents.

I updated my server and reverted to Kodi 18.6, unfortunately I am still getting the same issue.

There is also a possibility that the change for the most recent 18.8 nightly will help http://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/android/arm/Leia/ If not, then it probably is something for the Kodi forum. It seems the two main android developers have FireTV devices so you have a good chance of being heard.

@Joltax, could you make a sample recording of two minutes or so and provide me a link on the cloud so I can test with my FTV 4K. I saw your post on the Kodi forum and for one you didn't provide a debug log that you are going to need.

Also can you confirm that the same channel is working for live tv but not for recordings? I don't think the users who are responding to you grasp that difference maybe show live tv working and recordings

Perhaps send the NextPVR logs and and Kodi debug logs here first just in case something else is going wrong. In your post there and here you mention crash, are you getting an Android message about the crash?

It seems I am now seeing crashes / freezing on everything except SD playback

I tested everything in my office right next to my WAP to try and eliminate bandwidth issues and still saw similar problems.

Hopefully I have enough webspace / bandwidth to host the files!

Those logs are with Matrix and 5.0.1 of pvr.nextpvr so I'd prefer with a known supported version like 18.6 or the nigthly. I will try your sample on 18.6 to start.
