Scheduling "Identifiable" recordings?

Mythweb has an option where you can schedule something like "Rick and Morty", but only if the episode is "identifiable", which means that it's not an "SH"-type, and therefore has program details instead of the generic. This is useful when the provider sometimes has EPG details, and sometimes not, either because of late updates, or the schedule is still generic 14 days out. I looked at the schedule options in NextPVR, and that doesn't seem like it's an option, unless I'm just not understanding the scheduling process.

NextPVR uses the EP vs SH distinction in the avoid duplicates logic, it won't rerecord a show with the same EP id that you have recorded, watched, or deleted. It is not wise to avoid scheduling SH shows because shows change from SH to EP when details come available.

Understood. But the "don't record SH programs" kicks in when Adult Swim (or whoever) has a block of generic programs that _don't_ get resolved into EP's, and therefore you end up with all tuners blocked for recording because you're getting multiple old episodes recorded.

If that's the way that NextPVR does it, then it's just the way that NextPVR does it.

It doesn't currently do anything like this, but I could look into adding something. It wouldn't make sense to other EPG sources, so I wouldn't add it to the UI when scheduling shows, but I could add some generic rule around this (able to be enabled/disabled in the config.xml).

Do you think there is a generic rule you could describe that would cover the functionality you'd prefer. ie, is it as simple as 'dont recording Schedules Direct SH programs with recurring recordings', or would it need to be more complicated than that?

Typically you set shows by the guide or one time slot and in a normal TV world we use the New flag too. If you pick all shows you are bound to have problems whether they are SH or EP. For example this week I have 50+ of Big Bang Theory shows with the EP shows far outnumbering the 11 SH shows. Same with Late Night show which often are only EP for one week, why wouldn't you want to schedule the SH ones too? It doesn't make sense to me to add this is rule.

In your example if you really want to get them at all times, lower the priority of the recording to free up the tuner for higher priority recording.

Edit: I did think of a use case there are some users who record everything for collection purposes not for watching, they wouldn't want SH show.

Right now, "The Shivering Truth" is going to be on Cartoon Network over the next few weeks. Only episodes through 2020-06-01 are "EP"; the ones for 2020-06-07 and -08 are still "SH". But if those episodes never become EP's, then they're still going to get recorded. Which means that in order to determine if I've seen them, I would have to watch them. Since they're SH, they won't have the New flag, or an accurate Original Air Date.

On MythTV, I would set the recording rule for "The Shivering Truth" to indicate Identifiable, which means that the SH's drop off the upcoming list. If a future guide update turns them into EP's, then they'll get scheduled.

Applying the "Identifiable" rule just makes it easier to not have to go through lots of potentially duplicate recordings.

There is kind of a work around for doing this in the web app in the current build.

On the Search page, click more filters, type the name and hit 'Create Recording', and it'll popup the advanced recording dialog. There you can narrow down to a specific channel, or all channels. It has a setting on that screen called 'Advanced', where you can add and unique_id like 'EP%'. Hit save, and it'll do what you want.

OK; I'm not looking to turn NextPVR into MythTV Smile

I'll take a look. Thanks for the guidance.
