Lost Functionality

There are occasions where I can begin watching live TV and then decide to record the program by using Ctrl-K. When this happened, V4 simply "forked" the tuner output into the recording file and the playback display simultaneously. V5 does not do this. Pressing Ctrl-K begins use of a 2nd tuner for the same channel..  Why does this happen? I use this functionality with live TV in order to know when to begin recording. If my other tuners are currently busy, I'm out of luck. V4 handled this functionality quite nicely.

Is there some configuration setting that I can set to recover this behavior?

I another post sub told me he preferred to use a new tuner if it is available when recordings started. I don't remember if this actually changed in v5 or not.

Nothing on this front should be any different to NextPVR v4.

OK. I'm getting errors. I will do some retesting and post again with the logs.

I did some testing and found that V5 doesn't behave exactly like V4, and there is loss of functionality.

Steps to show this in V5:
- Start the desktop app and tune a live TV channel. A tuner is chosen.
- Press Ctrl-k. A second tuner is chosen for recording that channel to the disk. That's two.
- Open a new second desktop app using -multiple.
- Choose a live TV channel to display. The third and last tuner is chosen for this live TV channel.
- Press Ctrl-k for this live TV channel. The tuner output is split for recording this channel. All three tuners is use.
- Start a third desktop app using -multiple.
- Live TV cannot be used: No tuners available

V4 always split the tuner output to accomodate a Ctrl-k command.

Would like to have that functionality back. The capability is there.

What tuner were you using? I'll check it. It should always be able to let you do live tv as a copy a channel that is already in use. (assuming same channel, or channel on the same frequency if digital tuner)

No, that's not always true - often v4 would also prefer to use another tuner if one was available.

Lost Functionality

Just a general comment regarding your few posts about 'lost functionality'. NextPVR v5 is not trying to do 'everything v4 does plus a little bit more'. It's new app, significantly different to v4, but with a lot of overlap. It does not aim to have the exact same functionality.

I was going by your statement in Post #4 but I realize that V4 has functionality not in V5 and vice versa. I think V5 is far superior. Thank you. For the most part, lost functionality is small but losing a tuning capacity is of concern.

I hope you agree.

EDIT: Tuner is the Hauppauge DCR-3250 Triple Tuner with a cable card.

Again, that isn't an error  as I pointed out earlier that is what sub likes, I agree with you I'd prefer multirec but I trust sub has his reasons.  

You need to duplicate the error where you lose the ability to record or watch live tv when you shouldn't.

Martin...the error is that I should be be able to use all tuners at all times. V5 decreases that functionality by arbitrarily using a 2nd tuner when it doesn't need to. All Ctrl-k operations should split the tuner output to the disk.

If you follow the steps I supplied in Post #6, a tuner will be used that shouldn't be.
