When I first reported the blank channels and guide, it was using my speedy Intel I7 4,7GHz processor so speed was not an issue; something else was the cause.

But when I reported the very slow channel program information filling it, it was using a backup computer due to a power supply failure in my fast PC. I am almost embarrassed to tell you that my backup is a handheld PC (Ockel Fusion C) running an Intel Atom processor at 1.83Ghz. So low processor speed may be causing that issue. Unfortunately I can't test on the 4.7Ghz one since it is not fixed yet. So looks like issue still present are the two black screens. But as a workaround, I am using the two stage group load. Loading a small group of channels always allows me to load all the channels in next. Thank you for continuing to look at this.

Have one more clue / piece of info for you. It seems that when I was starting NextPVR on the phone I would tap the icon and just wait. It would show a server # but I would do nothing. Eventually it would say "connected" and I would have the two black screens. But I found that if I touch the screen on the sever number that is presented when it is starting, voila, the app works normally, ie, no black screens! This is completely repeatable.

Also, I am back to the fast machine, and the Samsung does update the channel information at normal speed now. So no 2Ghz servers? I was planning on using this solid state PC since I could leave it on constantly and it only uses a few watts of power vice 850W for the fast PC. No big deal, just letting you know its performance with two data points. I will deal with the slow updates to save energy!

Ok, that's interesting. So as long as your click the click the server that appears in the list at startup, it starts fine without the blank screen problem you mentioned?

I'm not sure why your other server is so slow. Maybe slow storage, or limited memory is also a factor. I'm using it on a NAS drive, which has a 2Ghz Celeron processor, and it's absolutely fine.

Sorry, I hate when things change wrt operability. Ok, now it is no longer a 100% reliable way. Works about 50% of the time. Don't know what changed. This AM, it always worked. Now seems hit or miss.

Now dumb question - In doing all this startup stuff, I have been just using the back button to get out of the app. Is there a proper way to shut it down? Seems like it is still running in the background since I get a message on the screen that says " Connected to NextPVR" even though I backed out of it. Perhaps a button to really shut down the app hard. That may also be affecting the way it runs when it is re-started. Just throwing it out there.

Usually Android apps would continue to run in the background. You'd rarely see an app a shutdown type button, so I can't really see me adding one of those.

You could try killing the app from the Android task manager, and see if it behaves any differently when started cleanly though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwxV48R0ad0

So I would like to bring this topic to conclusion. Yes, I am familiar with force closing apps. In summary, whether I force close NextPVR and restart it or leave it running in the background, I always have the black screens for channels and guide. I can always get those screens to show if I go to settings and choose another channel group, then go back and select All Channels. After using the app since this topic started, I find that this method always works. This is my only issue now. Your beta has correct colors and the app no longer crashes so those issues are completely resolved. Is there a way that that the blank screen issue can be fixed once and for all so that I would not have to do the channel selection thing to get the app to work? If not, then you can tell me that, close the issue and I will just live with the workaround. Thanks for all you investigative work on this that you have done already.

I can't reproduce it here. I can problem try some changes, and have you test them to see if it helps though.

Works for me. I wouldn't mind at all testing the changes.

OK. It'll have to wait a day or two - I'm short on available time right now.

I thought that when you are ready to get back to this, the attached video might help you better understand what is happening.  I haven't been in a rush for resolution, since as you can see in the video, the workaround of switching back and forth to different channel groups always gets the screens back.  But eventually it would be nice for this to be fixed.  Thanks.

EDIT: I have tried twice to attach the video as zip and mp4, but it doesn't upload. It is 3 Mb. Is that a problem?
