Jeff:

I hate to mention this but I seem to still be having trouble with the va panel. I thought it fixed itself somehow but alas i was wrong.

It's hard to even point out where it's going wrong but the next recordings displays sometimes work, sometimes not. yesterday things were just fine, no troubles everything displayed as it should. today it's not showing anything as comming up to record even though there are several scheduled over the next 24 hour period that i have it set for.

I'm not sure what else to say, any info you need that i can provide i'm happy to.

Oh one more thing, the weather plug is doing weird things today too. maybe it's my auora today. seems it's getting something wrong or missing a graphic or both. i've attached a screen shot, i hope.

Anyway thanks for listening

The weather plug in error should be effecting everyone soon. MSNBC seems to have made a small change to their web pages that messes up my parsing. I wil lpost the update to the wiki with the updated source code etc. later. For now, you can use this.

As to the upcoming recordings, I don;t know why it isn't working for you. The database you sent me worked fine on my machine. If you look in the jeff directory at the pendinglist.log file you can see what shows the plug-in thinks are in the pending list. If you look at the VAPanel-MVP or VAPanel-PC.log files you can see what messages are being posted for display on the panel.

Jeff:

Thanks for the quick update to the weather, it works like a charm.

As far as the VA panel goes, i don't know either. Today it's working just fine, showing all pending recordings as it should. I'll keep an eye on those logs you mentioned and see if i see anything weird pop up. Aparently i'm either the only one who notices it (doubtful) or the only one it's happening to (probable). I'll keep plugging away and see if i can see where i'm going wrong here. i'd say it's something i've done except it happens on it's own.

Oh well, i'll keep looking and let you know when i see something that has a better chance of giving you a clue.

Thanks for the assistance

Jeff:

I've been checking the logs often today just to see if i see anything weird. The VA panel was doing fine this morning, now it's not showing anything again. I set the VA panel to show me 48 hours ahead, with 6 items showing. That would mean with my recording schedule there would never be a time when the VAPanel would show nothing upcomming.

Checking the logs

the pendinglist.log file shows everything i have set to record, for as far out as i have a tv schedule, right now that's the 24th of this month.

the VAPanel-PC.log and the VAPanel-MVP.log agree. They both show only one upcomming recording. Scheduled to begin about an hour from now. The problem i see here is that's incorrect as there are several recordings scheduled to start within the next 48 hours i have it set for, not just one. Beyond that, the cycle of the VAPanel starts at the weather, does the current, today, and tomorrow forcasts, then instead of reporting at least the one recroding it found it goes back and starts the weather at current forcast again.

I'm not sure what it's doing or where to look next. Do you think just un installing the VA plug and re-installing it would do any good?

The has worked flawlessly for months now up until the last round of upgrades. I updated both the GBPVR and the VA plug at the same time.
Something i won't do again Smile I think i learned my lesson on that one!

Jeff:

I think i found something weird, i don't know if it's the answer or not. You be the judge.

i noticed this evening that the scheduled recording that was not showing up on the panel did so after it started it's record. i noticed that the one following did not show up yet. the only difference between these show were that one had started recording and one had not. looking further the only other difference was that the one that was recording now had a folder that it was recording into and a folder.jpg in that folder.

I tried making a folder named the same as the upcomming recording and dropped a picture in there and called it folder.jpg and guess what. all of the sudden it was showing on the va panel.

would not having a named folder and picture cause it to not show on the panel? it seemed that way to me. I went in and deleted the folder and picture and bringing up gbpvr again the panel showed nothing pending. I wouldn't think that would be right as nothing has a folder and picture until it starts recording and some never get a picture.

I don't know if this makes any sense to you or at least gives you a clue. I'll keep watching it and let you know if i see anything else weird and also do a couple more tests and see if others come up on the panel by giing them a folder and pic.

What is supposed to happen if it can;t find a folder and image for the show is that it is supposed to look for an image for the channel. By chance do you not have a channel image either? I haven;t tested the case where there is no channel image. I will need to look at the code and see what would happen in that case.

Jeff....I am going to chime in....I am seeing strange things as well....shows that have been recored not being there one minute then there the next. Sporadic slowness when navigating through the show as well as periodic MVP reboots when using VA.

This all started around the 93.10 gbpvr upgrade....I just loaded 94.12...could there be something that is now incomaptible?

There could be. The newest release also only caches a limited number of directories. if you have more than 25 (the new default) things will be sluggish when you enter a directory that has to be read on the fly, although the MVP shouldn't time out. You can set the number of dircectory to cache to zero (which while not intuitive means cache them all) using the config app. Look on the Memory tab. Let me know if that helps.

No, i don't have any channel images on the system. I do have a gbpvr/media/channellogos folder but it's empty. I keep this system pretty lean and don't use a lot of little icons, it only throws off my wife and her use of things. I'll look around and see if i can find some channel logos and drop them in. maybe that'll make a difference. thanks for the tip.

Tipstir:

nuts, you caught me Smile

I'm using a stripped down slightly customized version of the fat blue hi vis skin, but i like your background very much and it looks nice on the fbhv skin so i stole, er borrowed it. The new weather that jeff posted did fix my weather plug in, all is well in that department.

I am in fact on comcast, i saw a megapack 60 on the wiki of channel logos that you uploaded. I did download those and drop them in the channel images folder. it didn't make a difference but i'm not sure if i need to rename those to the exact name and channel number as my egp sees. My lineup is a bit different than yours.

Would you happen to know if the name is important for this circumstance?
