Since I moved to V5 some months ago every time there is a new version I have to go and edit KeyMappings.xml to remove the whole {CTRL} S command under "Recordings" subsystem which stops accidentally sorting of recordings. Is there any easy way to prevent it happening now the file is not under NPVR-data?

Don't use the installer, use NPVR.zip and unzip with -u.

In fairness, it's likely that was always the case with V4 too. It only ever tried to retain updates to config.xml and npvr.db3.

In v4 the NSIS installer skipped files by date.

Code:
....
Output folder: C:\Users\Public\NPVR
Skipped: AnalogDevices.xml
Skipped: Config-master-dont-edit.xml
Skipped: DeviceRules.xml
Skipped: KeyMappings.xml
Skipped: empty.db3
....

Ah, ok. Skipping empty.db3 and Config-master-dont-edit.xml could have been a bad thing. Those were expected to be overwritten with each install.

If you updated them they would have a new source date so that wasn't really an issue. The biggest issue I saw on occasion was with users manually copying in an old NShared or something in a way that didn't preserve the original date and time and then rerunning the installed didn't fix things.

Right now the deb installer on linux does only updates changes, so far so good.

Thanks will try Zip with the next update! It was never a problem with V4. What makes it a little more inconvenient is having to remember to start Notepad as admin to edit now the file is under \Program Files\

You will have to unzip as admin too and remember to stop the services the tray app etc. It can be a pain. You can also simply keep a copy of KeyMapping.xml and replace with it after the update (as admin).

I did think of just writing a batch file to copy the file as it may be less trouble! Or possibly add the command to one of the files in the "scripts" directory!

Download gsudo https://github.com/gerardog/gsudo/releases/tag/v0.7.2

then create update.bat and run it when you want to install.

Code:
npvrinstaller.exe
gsudo copy your.xml  "C:\Program Files\NextPVR\Data\KeyMappings.xml"
