x-newa new install

Hello;

I'm trying out this plugin in a quest to have CC from an m3u tuner appear in kodi. When I launch x-newa I get a connection error. I have also installed the other new client and it seems to be working fine just no CC.

Any help is appreciated. I could not find any install info for x-newa at all. Many links are dead.

You didn't include any logs, so we can only guess about what you're doing. Are you using v4 or v5? X-NEWA will only work with a v4 server. knewc will work with a v4 or v5 server. At this point, you should be using knewc.

You also didn't give any indication about what client you're running kodi on.

Post logs from your server (from the Settings | "Log Files" button on the webserver page) and kodi debug logs. Then we can actually provide useful support.

The proper starting point is the read me first thread https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=50833 including the current installation instructions. XNEWA has been replaced with KNEWC so you shouldn't be trying to using it, it won't work with v5. You are right many of the old instructions were about XNEWA and other installation processes that are obsolete. I am assuming you mean KNEWC when you say the other new client so you should be good with it,

I don't know what an m3u tuner is, I guess you mean IPTV. These steams may or may not have have closed caption for subtitles some may use a dvb stream.

In any case closed captioning in embedded mpeg which is typical in Canadian and American closed captioning is not enabled by default in Kodi you need to turn it on via a rather cryptic location Settings>Player>Language>Enable parsing for closed captions

After using that then on a channel you need to turn on subtitle either globally or a channel by channel basis via the settings gear on the player.

Thanks a lot guys!

All I was really after was the CC so thanks Martin! I now have CC native displaying in kodi. I like the complete integration of the PVR plugin for Kodi so I guess I will stick with that. Also is Sub's kodi addon the default one? Or is that a different version I need to install?

The only addon is pvr.nextpvr if that is the question. I think it is is the way to go too unless you have a history of using the NextPVR Windows GUI and really want the UI client.

That being said I have been using UI client a bit more recently and in a testament to sub's design it does load much faster and remote navigation is still more intuitive.

It's working so well, thanks for the info. Is there any way to ensure the CC are displayed right away? I've tried setting the language settings to english but then they would not show at all. It seems every time we must turn on subtitles in kodi.

Also I was wondering if the recordings could be funnelled to the movie or tv show folders I have for my Emby server install. I noticed with simple PVR addon it would do that. Maybe this question needs to be asked to sub?

Would permanent subtitles be easier with KNEWC? Will KNEWC run on coreleec?

On the settings gear the bottom line option "Set as default for all media" should do what you want.

You can change your recording rules and store to any configured folder

KNEWC uses the Kodi player and yes it runs on CoreELEC

I have tried setting default for all media but it doesn't seem to stick. We have to enable it on every channel change.

Also I noticed the video stream gets affected when CC is enabled sometimes. It becomes jerky sort of...

Would I be able to enable CC by default through KnewC? I tried the addon on my corelec box already but it did not seem to work. Just a never ending circle.

Anything to do with Kodi support should be posted on the Kodi forum. If you have trouble getting a response I suppose I could sent a T to the player automatically in knewc.

Typing the wrong IP is almost always the first error but turn on debug logging and get your CE logs and I can have a look.
