What is the "Recording Auto Transcode" setting for? I tried changing it and it didn't seem to do anything to the recorded video.

Post-recording it’ll convert the video to a format is compatible with playback in the web browser. If you’re not intending to watch in the browser, then you’re probably best to leave this setting disabled.

I tried it for a couple of recordings and it didn't seem to do anything. The files in the recording folders were *.ts files and Mediainfo shows they are mpeg-ts. I was curious about it because I currently use TMPGENC to manually edit out the spot breaks from the mpegs and Handbrake to then compress them to AVC and I wondered if I could use NPVR's transcoding to compress and then use Avidemux in copy mode to trim the spots.

They are still ts files but mpeg2video changed to the h264 and you can choose to lower the bit rate for smaller files.

it would be better to stay with your process because you'd still need to remux them after cutting plus the m3u8 file that the browser uses would be wrong and negate the benefit of creating it in the first place.

As Martin said, it'll still be a .ts file, but with h264/aac. There will be an additional .m3u8 file, which is used for web playback.

Also, it'll only run this logic if you don't have a PostProcessing.bat. If you have that batch file, it'll assume you're going to take care of any post-processing yourself.

Got it, thanks.
