Hi,

I followed the wiki steps to Migrate on Windows
You can migrate NextPVR on Windows from V4 to V5 ...
  • Install NextPVR V5 on the same machine as NextPVR V4
  • Copy config.xml and npvr.db3 from the data folder of V4 to the data folder of V5.
  • Change the port used by V5 to avoid a conflict with V4 ... Advanced Setup
  • Restart the NextPVR Server service ... by re-booting the computer.
I tried several times installing and re-booting but I am still not successful.

I copied the config.xml and npvr.db3.

I have changed the port 8866 to another one (8867) as suggested in the 'Advanced Setup'.

I have changed the NPVR service starting to 'manual' in the windows services, since it looked like the V4 which was still running. I want to reduce potential problems.

The tray seems to be installed, it is a squarish 'N' icon instead of a circle 'N' in V4.

1- When I try to open the 'Web App', I get an error on the page:
localhost:8867/index.html
I also tried localhost:8866/index.html but nothing to see there either.

2- When I try to open the 'Desktop App', it says unable to connect to server.   A few times it said something like 'too many ...' but I was not fast enough to read and take note of the message since it disappears fast.

3- When I try to open the 'Show Status', it just show a blank page.

Make sure you anti-virus, firewall and Internet suite allow this. The install won't configure port 8867. You could also stop V4 and run V5 on 8866 to see if it is firewall related.

The logs are in NPVR-data\logs which is where you copied the files. zip them up and attach them if problems continue.

There will be two NextPVR services if V4 is still installed ... one for V4 and one for V5 ... Do you have two services?  Have you changed the service that you intended to "manual"?

Thanks.

From the list of services, there is only one which points to the one in the V4 program folders.  So the V5 is missing somehow.

It seems the installation did not work in my case. Is there an easy way to install the V5 service if the installation fails to install it?

From the log I saw these errors, the second one looks normal since there is no server running that can be connected to:

Ok, I found the install.txt log on the installer in c:\temp\ and even though I did run the installer by clicking 'Run as an administrator', it complains in the log.  Note that the installation did not say anything about this error.  I am on Windows 7 in case it is not compatible or something:

Run the installer again as administrator ... it should keep the existing config.xml and npvr.db3 ...

Edit .... You can use your Windows 7 key to upgrade to Windows 10 at no cost ... just sayin'

I did retry many times as an administrator but it still does not work.

I am going to guess you have installed the V5 service before and manually disabled it yourself. From and admin prompt does this find NextPVR?

sc query state=all | findstr /C:"SERVICE_NAME: NextPVR Service"

If yes, you simply need to go back into services.msc and reenable it.

Thanks for helping me with this issue.

No it was never listed in the services, only the V4 is present.

Running the 'sc' query you supplied returned no results.  But the 'findstr' is not a command on my Windows it seems.

So I did:
sc query "NextPVR Service"
this returns an error stating that the service is not installed

sc query "NPVR Recording Service"
this returns that the service is present with state 'stopped'

I had also checked many times in the services GUI that it is not there.

Ah, findstr missing will likely be your problem.

In the program files folder as admin open installservice.bat and change

Code:
sc query | findstr /C:"SERVICE_NAME: NextPVR Service"
IF ERRORLEVEL 1 (

Code:
sc query "NextPVR Service"
IF ERRORLEVEL 1060 (

For me ... sc qc "NextPVR Service" ... gives ...

Quote:[SC] QueryServiceConfig SUCCESS

SERVICE_NAME: NextPVR Service
        TYPE              : 10  WIN32_OWN_PROCESS
        START_TYPE        : 2  AUTO_START  (DELAYED)
        ERROR_CONTROL      : 1  NORMAL
        BINARY_PATH_NAME  : C:\Program Files\NextPVR\NextPVRService.exe
        LOAD_ORDER_GROUP  :
        TAG                : 0
        DISPLAY_NAME      : NextPVR Service
        DEPENDENCIES      :
        SERVICE_START_NAME : LocalSystem

You should be able to install the service using ... sc create ... https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previou...9(v=ws.11)

Edit ... Martin is ahead of me ... The .. sc create ... command is in the .bat file.
