I've gone to the web site and looked at the USBIRT device. From what I understand, it can receive a signal as well as tranmit.

Therefore, from what I gather, one can (as an example):

1) Set the remote control option for GBPVR to "USBIRT"
2) Select channel 525 to record at time X,
3) Then GBPVR will send a signal, at time X, to the USBIRT device, which is located next to my cable box,
4) The channel on my cable box will then change to 525 via the USBIRT?

Is this correct? Do I need Girder or anything else?

Also, how do I set up GBPVR to use the Video In on my 250 card?

I'm asking these question just so I don't shell out over $50 and then take 10,000 days to figure it out how to make it work like I did with my Linux box. :-)

Thanks!

Yes - pretty much.

1) You Channel Changer to USB-UIRT
2) 'Learn' the remote you need to emulate
3) Select channel 525 to record at time X
4) Then GBPVR will send a signal, at time X, to the USBIRT device, which is located next to my cable box
5) The channel on my cable box will then change to 525 via the USBIRT

No.

Ok.. is this USBIRT the same as USB-UIRT (http://usbuirt.com/)?
Are there any other USB based IR Transceivers?

Also, can GB-PVR interprate any received signals from the usbirt?
i.e.: Can I use my remote to send a specific command to GB-PVR trigerring it to do certain action? Like switch to LiveTV, or comics ...etc.

I am asking because I do not have the original remote of PVR250, and want to use a Universal Remote Control..

I do not see any help about using GB with universal remote..

Cheers...

You can control GBPVR with pretty much any remote you like, for instance the remote that is used with your cable settop box. You just need to use girder as the interface, and tuck your settop box away with the USB-UIRT so they don't cross-talk.

Girder can 'learn' your remote's signals, as can the UIRT. Girder then controls GBPVR for you as you direct using the remote, and UIRT sends it's learned commands as directed by GBPVR to your settop box.

I'm using the X-10 RF remote with girder and it works really well, with no need for line-of-sight.

[Only strange thing is I cannot find the PgUp and PgDn special keys in the girder conrtol app!]

krypton_john, thanks for reply..

sub said Girder is not needed..
how is that?

-->[My Remote Control Chan Up ] -----(Send Signal To)----------------------------------------->
-->[UIRT Receiver]--------------------------(decode)-----------------------------------------------
-->
-->[Girder]----------------------------------(??? send Windows Event to GB-PVR [Image: rock.gif])------------------>
-->[GB-PVR]--------------------------------(Send Signal Chan Up back to UIRT Transmitter)----->
-->[UIRT Transmitter]-----------------------(Send Signal to Sattelite Receiver)------------------------>
-->[Sattelite Receiver]----- Do Actual Channel Up

is this how it is gonna work?

How it is gonna be if I do not user Girder (as sub said above)?[Image: rock.gif]

Thanks in advance...

Cheers...

In original question (asked by Peetem), the scenario was all about GB-PVR using the USB-UIRT to send IR signals to change channels on a STB. This situation does not require girder.

The questions then changed to using the USB-UIRT as an IR Receiver for controlling GB-PVR. This will require girder.

Just dropping in here, as I can't seem to get the 'standard' remote working on my PVR350. (IR32 shows up in tray, but stays dead).

I do however have a working USB-IrDa device.

Would that also be able to do the USB-UIRT functions ??

To second what sub said, this is exactly how mine is configured. I have a USB-UIRT as the IR receiver/transmitter. Incoming IR commands are passed to Girder which emulates the keyboard and controls GBPVR. Outgoing IR commands to my Dish receiver are simply sent to USB-UIRT and thence to the Dish receiver.

No. IrDa signals are very different from those used by remote controls.
