Hi.  1) I tried to install v5 to a local user account much like I have done successfully with v4.  However with v5 I am left with the impression there is some sort of issue with v5 and windows permissioning.

Most attempts to change basic things like the live tv buffer directory, the recording directory seem to fail.  At first they look like they succeed but when you exit and reenter they are back to the prior default settings.   I dont see any save button.  Using a 1080p screen.

2) Another hint that perhaps something is not right is that no links to Nextpvr client appear in the start menu of the local user account after install.

3)  I cant seem to find the field in the settings area where you set the port number.  Even though I have deleted v4 it seems that v5 keeps trying to use the port number previously used by v4 rather than the default 8866.  I have no idea where it is getting it from and it had me going in circles as I assumed the new install was going to use the default value of 8866 until I tried the old port number out of frustration.

4) I tried importing old .ts recordings made with v4 using the import button on the v5 settings menu but even though it goes through the steps I cant find any evidence that anything was imported.  I did this sort of thing before in v4 with no issue.

Thoughts appreciated.

You'll probably need to post the logs so we can see if you're getting any errors in your logs.

There is no 'save' button. When you make a change in the UI and it is saved. 'save' buttons are pretty dated these days, and applications tend to not use them anymore. ie, picture the Settings screen in your phone...no 'save' button.

There is no UI setting for the port. It's intended people will just use the default 8866. However, it is editable in config.xml if absolutely necessary. I recommend people just stay with the default if they can.

It's intended for importing a recordings-backup.xml file (as generated by v4 and v5). (or zipped version, generated by v5)

The install deliberately does not add an icon to the Start Menu ... https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/player-settings

HI Graham.  appreciate the reply.  Actually I think what sub has missed is that the installer does not work properly when run from a local user account even with admin privileges.  It only runs properly from an admin account.  (This is not an unusual issue and I have found such things with for example vpn softtware too that eventually gets fixed when I open trouble tickets.)   We only install apps from local user accounts.

running from a local user account the client gets installed in the local user account but the backend gets installed in the admin account.  Further it seems two shortcuts get installed in the admin start screen when they should have been installed in the local user account.

This sort of thing worked properly in v4 so I thought I would bring it up here to further enhance the already higher quality of v5.

Thanks for the link to the docs.  I will be eager to try out the new client when it finally arrives. In the meantime the old one does a good job submarining cursor aside.

I'm not even sure how you're trying to install it as a local user. The installer should be able to run from any windows users, but it will ask for admin permissions when the installer is started, since it installs services etc. There isn't anything significantly different to v4 from this front.

You'd probably need to let us know exactly what isn't working, and supply logs.

Same here. I'm trying to change my audio decoder settings, but nothing changes. After closing and reopening the settings window, the default settings reappear.

Are you talking about the Settings screen in nextpvr.exe? If so, do you see the Save button? If not, it's likely to do with you DPI settings.

I'm talking about the actual application.  When I open it to configure my NextPVR server pc, I go to the part of the menu that has the decoders.  When I change to the audio decoders I then close the application.  Then I open it again and I see that the default settings are still there.
