Genre Playlist

I use My Music (so this is a wishlist for REven). I would love some sort of Genre listing. So in other words, I can choose "rock" and it will play all the "rock" songs in my play list.

ok ill look into this, im redoing my music now (well playing around with it, waiting for my pictures 3 to finish before fully redoing it), and looking into usign amazon.com for a info lookup, most id3 tags have genre infomation, so this should be possible (i might have to completely get rid of the old db, but that shouldnt be a real problem....).

oh yeah so if you have requests for my music now is the time, and no i cant do visualizations im too lazy to figure this one out.

If you're using a DB to store the Track info, Maybe you could create dynamic playlists. Sort of like an SQL query. Playlist would play all songs "where genre = rock or classic rock and release dat < 1970". A nice one would be "DateAddedtoDB > 1 week ago". This would play the newer tracks added. My old sytem "pre GBPVR" was a rio receiver and I was able to make playlists based on queries, really enjoyed this.

the problem is i think i was lazy with the my music playlist, and genres are just stored as text, i should create another genre entity and reference that (im doing a boring arse db design paper, but it teaches you a few things, namely the dbs i did where crap).

It sounds like an interface similar to itunes??? Would we be able to select the 1-5 star via remote? That'd be kinda cool

probably, just have to figure out how to do the UI, and should songs that get a higher rating (ie let it be dynamic instead of user set).
