Timeshift performance vs Simple IPTV client

Kodi hasn't changed, Kodi is slightly slower time shifting because the client makes a few extra calls and waits for data to confirm success, in real-time mode Kodi cannot do this.

IPTV Simple is definitely going to be faster. I already explained the two logic for the two addons cannot be compared.

The reasons I suspect discarding segments as a potential issue is that four second delay with no data at all. On top of that it gives the Kodi ffmpeg demux more data to analyze for proper playback, which I note as an issue the log. Again I would need both the client and server logs to see if that is the case. You could check to see if recordings start quickly.

Periods with no data are possible if the source is m3u8 IPTV, since the data is bursty, with new segments arriving every 3-10 seconds or so.

I was wondering why nextpvr was so slow with timeshift enabled on Kodi. I tried simple IPTV and, after enabling use inputstream.adaptive for m3u8 (HLS) streams channel changing is instant with timeshift compared to 5-10 seconds with Nextpvr.

Is there anything I can do to improve channel change speed with timeshift?

NextPVR remixes the HLS file to TS and then buffers and streams to Kodi where it is buffered again. IPTV Simple Client can play the stream directly but it can't record. 10 seconds seem too long though we could investigate that using logs.

You might be able got drop the prebuffer time in settings if video doesnt corrupt.

I see. It varies from 5 - 10 seconds so I disabled it. Another app I tried is tvheadend. Channel change with timeshift is instant there.

Maybe the delay can be improved in future updates.

Without logs there is no problem and it won't get looked at for a future version.

Just to close this as an issue, I was testing the new multi-server feature in Nexus connecting to a couple of servers configured differently and decided to make a comparison of it working the way I feel it should. The first channel change is ATSC (Hauppauge) with no timeshifting to my main production NextPVR server. The second channel change is IPTV to a remote server I have on a VPS with timeshifting. So even with timeshifting and Internet not LAN I feel that IPTV is faster which with better caching it should be.

This is all via a small client running CoreElec Intel clients could be even faster.
