Hi @sub

First message here.

I'm from Italy and I use both NPVR4 and NPVR5 side by side, to feed practically any client starting from WMC, Kodi, MPC-HC and so on, ending with IPTV Extreme on Android.

And I'm happy with both of them with very few problems.

One of such problems is the EPG update frequency as in Italy many DVB-T  stations are used to include just the "Now and Next" info, which spans just for 2/3 hours.

I solved that problem years ago with NPVR4 using the switch -updateepgonly and a scheduled task, but I'm unable to do the same on v5

So is there a way to get the same functionality in NPVR5?

Would you mind to include an option to decide the update frequency directly from the web UI?

I think I'm not the only person in the planet affected of such limitation.

Thanks in advance.

NScripthelper -updateepg will update the EPG but it doesn't do the "only" part as it will also trigger the scheduled recording updates. Unless you aren't recording it seems like you should be using it.

In the V5 web UI you can already enter multiple update times https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid531833

Thanks. That would be mostly fine for me, given I record rarely and If I do that I'm used to record from the WMC frontend, not the backend

Nice, but I still think that the pair start hour/frequency would be a better option.

I would have to set 24 items to update every hour, very boring and unpractical...

It you need hourly updates spending a couple of Euro on Schedules Direct seems like your best option https://www.schedulesdirect.org/regions

Otherwise boring maybe, but it is a one time setup so excuse me if I don't agree that it is not practical to spend a couple of minutes typing.

FYI, the difference between "-updateepg" and "-updateepgonly" was that the latter did not exited nextpvr.exe immediately after updating the epg, wheras "-updateepg" effectively updated the epg then showed the NextPVR application for use. (both updated the scheduled recordings)

Aside that spending for a service that provide a worse service than my local solution is against my philosophy, is not that simple.

I already have access to a free EPG online provider that provides the main channels' EPGs, there are local  or more niche ones that aren't covered.

I use EPG collector to merge the data coming from the web with the ones coming from the antenna, so I'm covered even if the WEB connection/or service are down and, at the same time, I have the last minute updates that a 7/15 day service can't provide.

Clearly I wouldn't die typing a bit, but having something that works doesn't exclude that it can be improved.

Functionality and UX are not synonyms

My updated scheduled task works perfectly, thanks again

Anyway both

NScriptHelper.exe

dotnet.exe nscripthelper.dll

Are working correctly, which is the more correct form? Any advantage of former v.s. the latter (or viceversa?)

Ok,

What about my suggestion about adding the update frequency option directly on the Web UI, I haven't read your opinion?

To be clear this isn't a "pet request", given nscripthelper works and I had the scheduled task ready because npvr4, but I still think is a worth improvement attainable (I guess) with little work.
